Trenches (song)

"Trenches" is the first single from Onyx, the third studio album from hard rock band Pop Evil, and is the tenth single overall from the band.

The song was posted by the band on February 28, 2013. In June of that same year, the composition became their first national number one single on Rock Radio.

Premise

The song, which is the third part of a trilogy being presented in reverse, focuses on the struggles in the life of any individual, stating that it is important not to focus on things that they cannot control. Lead vocalist Leigh Kakaty states that in order for a musical ensemble to stand the test of time, the ensemble must write music to which people can relate, in other words, "We have to dig our way out of the trenches".

Reviews

Puregrainaudio describes the song as being a "hard rock masterpiece" having memorable guitar verses along with melodic choruses.

Trenches (band)

Trenches is a Christian metal band, formed by Haste the Day vocalist, Jimmy Ryan. The band announced their hiatus in 2010 before getting back together in early 2012.

Background

Jimmy Ryan, a member of Haste the Day, at the time, decided to depart the band, when they were in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 30, 2005, doing a concert, where he is a native of the city. The group was formed, when Ryan selected Joel David Lauver to be a guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist, Eli Larch Chastain to be a guitarist, Bill Scott to be a bassist, and Phil Hook to be their drummer.

Their first concert occurred in the city of Noblesville, Indiana, on November 24, 2007. The bands national debut was during a performance at the Cornerstone Festival, the subsequent year. Trenches was to perform, in 2009, at the same festival, yet they were replaced on the line-up listing.

Since then, Hook and Chastain have left the band, and drummer, Zach Frizzell, joined the band. The band is currently working on a new album, titled, Reckoner.

Trenches (web series)

Trenches was an American science fiction web series directed and produced by Shane Felux, creator of Star Wars: Revelations. The show premiered on Sony Pictures Entertainment owned Crackle on February 16, 2010. The show was written by Dawn Cowings and Sarah Yaworsky, and Aaron Mathias, Mercy Malick, Lev Gorn, Hong Chau, Daz Crawford, and Scott Nankivel star. New episodes were streamed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through March 5, 2010. Trenches was originally produced in 2007 for Disney's Stage 9, a web video venture company, but has since been licensed to Crackle.

Plot

Locked in a grueling war on a backwater planet, two enemies find themselves abandoned by their own. They must put aside their differences and work together if they are to survive. They better do it quickly - they are not alone on this rock.

Gameplay

Trenches 2, like Trenches is a combination of Tower Defence and Castle Attack genres, the player must create soldiers in order to overwhelm the opposing force. It is largely based on attrition warfare such as World War I was. Unlike Trenches the game has 5 countries each with their own strengths and weaknesses. These being the French, Germans, Russians, British and Americans. The campaign is non linear as the player can choose what area they would like to attack on a map of Europe.

Reception

The game was very well received on Apple app store, boasting a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. On other review websites the game was given poor reviews.

Publishing

The game uses EA's Origin. EA’s distribution agreement with the game’s developer had previously expired, but as of February 28, 2013, Trenches II was re-released on the iTunes app store for free.
