Khandi Alexander

Khandi Alexander (born September 4, 1957) is an American dancer, choreographer, and actress. She is best known for the roles of Dr. Alexx Woods in the CBS police procedural series CSI: Miami, as LaDonna Batiste-Williams in HBO drama Treme, and as Catherine Duke in NBC sitcom NewsRadio. She also had a major recurring roles in NBC medical drama ER as Jackie Robbins, sister to Dr. Peter Benton, and as Maya Lewis, Olivia Pope's mother in ABC drama Scandal. Alexander also received critical acclaim for her performance in the HBO miniseries The Corner in 2000.

Early life

Khandi Alexander was born in New York City, the daughter of Alverina Yavonna (Masters), an opera and jazz singer, and Henry Roland Alexander, who owned a construction company. She was educated at Queensborough Community College. She appeared on Broadway, starring in Chicago, Bob Fosse's Dancin, and Dreamgirls. She was a choreographer for Whitney Houston's world tour from 1988–1992, and also appeared as a dancer in Natalie Cole's video for "Pink Cadillac" in 1988.

Rob Brown (actor)

Rob Brown (born March 1, 1984) is an American actor. He is known for his roles in the films Finding Forrester (2000), Coach Carter (2005), Take the Lead (2006), and The Express (2008), and for starring in the HBO series Treme (2010-13). He is currently cast in the NBC drama Blindspot as FBI Agent Edgar Reade.

Personal life

Brown was born in Harlem and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he graduated from Poly Prep in 2002. He is also a member of the academic program Prep for Prep, which provides opportunities for minorities in New York City and its surrounding area to attend elite independent schools. In 2008 he starred in the football film The Express where he played Ernie Davis, the first African American Heisman Trophy winner.

Career

Brown shot into the spotlight after starring opposite Sean Connery in the 2000 film Finding Forrester. He had neither professional nor amateur acting experience prior to taking this role. Brown tried out as an extra after finding a flyer hanging on a bulletin board in his school. Despite his lack of previous experience, he was given the lead role of Jamal Wallace.

Kim Dickens

Kimberly Jan "Kim" Dickens (born June 18, 1965) is an American actress whose film debut was a supporting role in the 1995 film comedy Palookaville. She later had lead roles in the movies Truth or Consequences, N.M. (1997), Zero Effect, and Mercury Rising (both 1998). Dickens has had several other supporting film roles, including in Hollow Man (2000), House of Sand and Fog (2003), The Blind Side (2009), and Gone Girl (2014).

On television, she had regular roles in the HBO dramas Deadwood (2004–06) and Treme (2010–13), and currently stars as Madison Clark in the AMC horror-drama series, Fear the Walking Dead (2015).

Early life

Dickens was born in Huntsville, Alabama, the daughter of Pam (Clark) Howell and Justin Dickens, a country-western singer. She graduated from that city's Lee High School and attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication. Dickens soon moved to New York City, where she worked as a waitress, to continue her studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.In the late 1990s she moved to Los Angeles.

Treme (/trəˈmeɪ/ trə-MAY) is an American television drama series created by David Simon and Eric Overmyer that aired on HBO. The series premiered on April 11, 2010, and concluded on December 29, 2013, comprising four seasons and 36 episodes. The series features an ensemble cast, including Khandi Alexander, Rob Brown, Chris Coy, Kim Dickens, India Ennenga, John Goodman, Michiel Huisman, Melissa Leo, Lucia Micarelli, David Morse, Clarke Peters, Wendell Pierce, Jon Seda, Steve Zahn; and features musical performances by several New Orleans-based artists.

The series takes its name from Tremé, a neighborhood of New Orleans. It begins three months after Hurricane Katrina as the residents, including musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians, and other New Orleanians, try to rebuild their lives, their homes and their unique culture in the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane.

It received generally favorable reception, particularly for its performances by the cast and musical performers, as well as for its realistic portrayal of New Orleans culture.
