Travelers (The X-Files)

"Travelers" is the fifteenth episode of the fifth season of American science fiction television series The X-Files, and the 111th episode of the series overall. It was written by John Shiban and Frank Spotnitz, directed by William A. Graham and aired in the United States on March 29, 1998 on the Fox network. The episode earned a Nielsen household rating of 9.9, being watched by 15.06 million people in its initial broadcast. The episode received mixed reviews from television critics.

The show centers on FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) who work on cases linked to the paranormal, called X-Files. Mulder is a believer in the paranormal, while the skeptical Scully has been assigned to debunk his work. In this flashback episode, a young Fox Mulder visits retired FBI Agent Arthur Dales (Darren McGavin), who tells him about one of the first X-Files, a case that Mulder's father, Bill, was involved in.

"Travelers" was written as a tribute to Howard Dimsdale, a screenwriter who was victimized by Hollywood blacklist in the 1950s and explored the idea that "the witch-hunt [of the 1950s] was actually a smoke screen to conceal something else". Noted actor Darren McGavin appears as Arthur Dales. McGavin was requested for the part especially by Chris Carter and had been approached to play various characters on the series before. In order to create a "convincing period movie", various special effects were used, including a special facial appliance that allowed the "alien spider" to crawl out of Skur's mouth and into his victim, and a bleaching job for the final film to give it an aged feel.

Travelers 3

The Travelers 3 were a vocal trio from Eugene, Oregon.

Harmonizing male folk combos, in trios and quartets, were booming in the early 1960s in the wake of the success of the Kingston Trio. Elektra Records, then emerging as one of the most prominent American independent folk-oriented labels, made its first move into the territory with the Limeliters, whose self-titled LP gave the company its first Top Forty album. Although the Limeliters would make most of their early-1960s chart LPs for RCA, Elektra soon came up with another folk threesome, the Travelers 3. Appropriately enough, the trio recorded three long-players for the label, starting with The Travelers 3. They subsequently recorded one LP on the Capitol label.

The group got together in Eugene, Oregon, where Charlie Oyama (banjo, guitar, ukulele) and Pete Apo (guitar, ukulele, drum) had moved from Hawaii to attend the University of Oregon (though Oyama and Apo had met before they came to the university, through Apo's brother). Teaming up with Dick Shirley (bass, guitar, and plastic toy flute), they went back to Hawaii to do a long residency at the Shell Bar (famous for its use in the 1959-63 TV detective series Hawaiian Eye), becoming the first folk act to work there.

"Clear!" is the first single from Kardinal Offishall's upcoming fifth studio album Mr. International. The song was produced by Supa Dups and Kardinal Offishall himself.Fatman Scoop is featured at the beginning of the song with him yelling "Kardinal!" The song contains a sample of "Think (About It)" by Lyn Collins.

Music video

The music video is based on Kardinal Offishall touring the far east. The beginning takes place in Toronto with him at the airport. In the next scene, he performs in Hong Kong. The following location takes place in Beijing and he arrives at Hotel G the night before he does another performance. The last minute of the video shows Kardinal Offishall in Shanghai and Singapore.

The remix features Elephant Man.

Chart performance

The single debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 at #65, making it his third entry on the chart. It peaked at #57.

"Clear" is the twelfth episode of the third season of the post-apocalyptic horror television series The Walking Dead, which originally aired on AMC in the United States on March 3, 2013. The episode was written by Scott M. Gimple and directed by Tricia Brock. In this episode, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), and Michonne (Danai Gurira) go on a supply run to Rick's hometown, initially to his old police station, for more weapons for the upcoming battle against The Governor (David Morrissey). This episode marks the return of Morgan Jones (Lennie James), who was last seen in the series pilot episode, "Days Gone Bye".

Plot

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), his son Carl (Chandler Riggs), and Michonne (Danai Gurira) go on a scouting run to retrieve weapons in preparation for an impending attack by The Governor. Along the way, the group pass a lone hitchhiker (Russ Comegys) and ignore his pleas to stop.

Carl expresses to his father his reservations about Michonne. They return to Rick and Carl's hometown and enter the police station where Rick previously worked but find the weapons locker is empty. The group then plans to retrieve guns from local establishments whose gun permits Rick signed, but they discover the entire community has been booby-trapped. A walker becomes entangled in one of the traps near where the group is walking, and a masked man on a rooftop shoots it. He then orders the three to drop their weapons and shoes and leave. The group initiates a gunfight. Carl shoots the man, though the bullet doesn't penetrate the man's ballistic vest. The unconscious man is revealed to be Morgan Jones (Lennie James), who helped Rick recover from his coma.
