Town of Hamilton

The Town of Hamilton is a former local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in north-eastern Brisbane.

History

The Divisional Boards Act 1879 established Divisional Boards as a form of local government for area outside the boundaries of recognised municipalities. The Kedron Division was one of those initially established on 11 November 1879, but on 3 November 1883 the Toombul Division was separated from the Kedron Division. Following agitation by Toombul board member Andrew Lang Petrie, the Hamilton Division was then separated from the Toombul Division on 2 October 1890 and Petrie become its first chairman.

In 1902, the Local Authorities Act 1902 replaced all divisions with towns and shires, creating the Shire of Hamilton on 31 March 1903.

In 1904, it was proclaimed the Town of Hamilton.

In 1925, it was amalgamated into the City of Brisbane.

Hamilton Town Hall

The Hamilton Town Hall was built in 1920 and is located at the north-west corner of the intersection of Racecourse Road and Rossiter Street, Hamilton. After the amalgamation into the City of Brisbane, the Hamilton Town Hall was used as a School of Arts. In World War II it was used by the Australian Army. After the war, the Hamilton branch of the Brisbane City Council library was located in the building, a role which continues to the present day. There are also meeting rooms available for use by community groups.

A town (町; chō or machi) is a local administrative unit in Japan. It is a local public body along with prefecture (ken or other equivalents), city (shi), and village (mura). Geographically, a town is contained within a prefecture.

Note that the same word (町; machi or chō) is also used in names of smaller regions, usually a part of a ward in a city. This is a legacy of when smaller towns were formed on the outskirts of a city, only to eventually merge into it.

Hamilton is a 2006 independent drama film directed by Matthew Porterfield, set and shot in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. The film was screened at several international film festivals, including the Maryland Film Festival. It was released on DVD by The Cinema Guild as part of a two-disc set with Porterfield's second feature, Putty Hill, on November 8, 2011.

The film's plot deals with two accidental parents and how they manage to work their lives around being premature parents.

Hamilton, Ohio

Hamilton is a city in and the county seat of Butler County, Ohio, United States, in the state's southwestern corner. The population was 62,447 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Its neighborhood of Lindenwald, settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th century and later, is one of three designated National Historic Districts.

The city has a council-manager form of government. Its mayor is Patrick Moeller and the City Manager is Joshua Smith. Most of the city is in the Hamilton City School District.

The industrial city is seeking to revitalize through the arts; it was officially declared the "City of Sculpture" in 2000. Its initiative has attracted many sculpture installations to the city, which founded the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park.

History

Hamilton, Ohio, was founded by European Americans in 1791 as Fort Hamilton (named to honor Alexander Hamilton). The northwest frontier military fort was built to serve as a supply station for the troops of generals Arthur St. Clair and later Anthony Wayne. Their armies entered the Miami Valley to drive out the Shawnee and Miami during the Northwest Indian War of the 1790s. The Indians hoped to maintain their territory here, but, following the American Revolutionary War, the United States wanted to open it for European-American settlement and succeeded in pushing out the indigenous peoples.

Hamilton (crater)

Hamilton is a lunar impact crater that is located near the southeastern limb of the Moon. From the Earth this crater is viewed nearly from the edge, limiting the amount of detail that can be observed. It can also become hidden from sight due to libration, or brought into a more favorably viewing position.

This crater is situated almost due east of the lava-flooded crater Oken, near the uneven Mare Australe. To the northeast of Hamilton, along the lunar limb, is the flooded crater Gum. Less than three crater diameters to the south is the flooded walled plain Lyot.

This is a nearly circular crater, although the rim to the north is somewhat straightened. It has a well-formed edge that has not been noticeably degraded through impact erosion. There are terraces along the interior sides, particularly along the western edge (which is hidden from view from the Earth.) The interior floor is deep and uneven, with an impact feature joining the midpoint to the north-northwestern inner wall.
