Alexi Murdoch

Alexi Murdoch (born 27 December 1973) is a British musician and songwriter, currently living in Berlin.

Background

Murdoch was born in London to a Greek father and Scottish-French mother and raised in Greece until he was ten, when his family moved back to Britain, settling in Scotland.

Murdoch moved to America in 1992 to study at Duke University, before moving to Los Angeles, California to be with a girlfriend. He first gained notice when an influential Los Angeles DJ, Nic Harcourt, began playing his music on the radio station KCRW. It led to much interest from the LA's music industry, which Murdoch largely ignored, turning down advances from record labels and opting to release his music independently.

Four Songs

He self-published the EP Four Songs through independent record stores and website CD Baby in November 2002. CD Baby sold over 50,000 copies of the release, becoming the site's all-time best-selling record.

In 2003, he performed at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference and that year's Sundance Film Festival. and, in 2004, at the Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference. In 2004, the song "Orange Sky" from the EP also became the most-played song on Philadelphia indie station WXPN.

Towards the Sun (song)

"Towards the Sun" is a song recorded by Barbadian singer Rihanna for the soundtrack to the 2015 film Home. The song premiered on BBC Radio 1 on February 24, 2015 and it was released for digital download as the soundtrack's lead single the same day though Westbury Road. The song was set to impact mainstream radio on March 17, 2015 however the radio release was cancelled. The song was written and produced by Tiago Carvalho and Gary Go, with an additional writing done by Rihanna.

"Towards the Sun" is a mid-tempo pop ballad with R&B music influences and features positive and optimistic lyrics. Upon release "Towards the Sun" received positive reviews from music critics who praised Rihanna's vocals and compared the song to the works of the British band Coldplay and their 2012 collaboration with Rihanna, "Princess of China". Commercially the song was a moderate success peaking at seventy six on the UK Singles Chart and twenty two on the French singles chart.

Background

In June 2012, it was revealed that Rihanna would star as the lead role in the film Happy Smekday!, alongside American actor Jim Parsons. In September 2012, 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation announced that the movie will be released for November 26, 2014. In June 2013, the film was retitled from Happy Smekday! to Home. In 2014, Variety magazine reported that, in addition to her voice role, Rihanna created a concept album for the film which was released on March 23, 2015. It was later revealed that the film's soundtrack would also include songs recorded by Charli XCX, Kiesza and Jennifer Lopez. "Towards the Sun" was written by Tiago Carvalho, Gary Go and Rihanna. Scott Mills premiered the song on BBC Radio 1 on February 24, 2015 and it was made available for digital download the same day via the iTunes Store. It was supposed to impact US Top 40/Mainstream radio on March 17, 2015, however, its release was cancelled at the last minute.

The Sun (in Greek: Helios, in Latin: Sol) is the star at the center of the Solar System and is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. It is a nearly perfect spherical ball of hot plasma, with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. The Sun is a G-type main-sequence star (G2V) based on spectral class and it is informally referred to as a yellow dwarf. Most of this matter gathered in the center, whereas the rest flattened into an orbiting disk that became the Solar System. The central mass became increasingly hot and dense, eventually initiating nuclear fusion in its core. It is thought that almost all stars form by this process.

The Sun (Sydney)

The Sun was an afternoon tabloid newspaper, first published under this name in 1910. It was acquired from Associated Newspapers by Fairfax Holdings in Sydney, Australia in 1953, as the afternoon companion to The Sydney Morning Herald. The former Sunday edition, the Sunday Sun was discontinued and merged with the Sunday Herald into the tabloid Sun-Herald at the same time.

Publication of The Sun ceased on 14 March 1988. Some of its content, and sponsorship of the Sydney City to Surf footrace, was continued in The Sun-Herald.
