Tour bus service

A tour bus service is a bus service that takes visitors sightseeing, with routes around tourist attractions.

Information

Double-decker buses and open top buses are commonly used, for providing a good view. Large coaches are used internationally by tour operators, intercity bus lines and charters, for short and long distance destinations. These buses are larger than regular transit buses with 2 to 4 axles (6 to 10 wheels).

The history of tour buses in North America began in the early 20th century when trucks were converted to provide a means for sightseeing within large American cities.Gray Line, the largest sightseeing operators began operations in 1910. Sightseeing was likely a side business for many intercity bus operators because the same types of buses were used (this remains true even today). World War II saw the industry decline, but it slowly re-emerged as an alternative to driving.

Many musicians, entertainers, dancing crews and bands travel in sleeper buses, commonly referred to as "tour buses". While most if not all of the buses and coaches listed above are for commercial applications, there are many coaches manufactured for personal use as motorhomes. These bus based motorhomes are considered the top end of the RV market.

Transit bus

A transit bus (also commuter bus, city bus, stage bus, public bus or simply bus) is a type of bus used on shorter-distance public transport bus services which include low-floor buses, double-decker buses, articulated buses and midibuses.

These are distinct from all-seated coaches used for longer distance journeys and smaller minibuses, which are typically used for paratransit (demand-responsive) services.

Specifications

Generally, a transit bus will have:

  • large and sometimes multiple doors for ease of boarding and exiting
  • minimal or no luggage space
  • bench or bucket seats, with no coachlike head-rests
  • destination blinds / displays such as headsigns or rollsigns or electronic dot matrix/LED signs
  • legal standing-passenger capacity
  • fare taking/verification equipment
  • pull cord or bus stop request button
  • Modern transit buses are also increasingly being equipped with passenger information systems, multimedia entertainment/advertising, and passenger comforts such as heating and air-conditioning (as opposed to historically where actually necessary). Some industry members and commentators promote the idea of making the interior of a transit bus as inviting as a private car, recognising the chief competitor to the transit bus in most markets.

"G-Slide (Tour Bus)" is the second single from the rap artist Lil Mama's debut album, VYP: Voice of the Young People. The song is co-written and produced by Dr. Luke and features Kadar of Familiar Faces.

The chorus to the song is set to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus", a popular infant's rhyme.

The song's style is similar to rapper Jibbs' "Chain Hang Low" as both choruses sample a nursery rhyme and the verses have a very rap-influenced beat.

The song was featured in the film I'm in Love with a Stripper. The song only received a commercial release in New Zealand, in the U.S. the commercial single was cancelled. However after the film How She Move was released in movie theaters, the song resurfaced for a short period of time garnering enough airplay to chart it on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.

Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana made an unofficial remix to this song called "Do My Thang". This song is also referenced in the Superspiz song "Make You Dance".

    Music video

The music video was premiered on August 31, 2007 on Yahoo! Music. On MTV, Total Request Live was premiered on September 11, 2007 and debuted at number three on October 1, 2007 and so far been on the countdown four days. Lil Mama made the choreography.
