Touch It (Monifah song)

"Touch It" was the lead single from Monifah's second album, Mo'hogany. The R&B/dance hybrid was produced and written by Jack Knight and Screwface, who used a sample of Laid Back's 1983 hit, "White Horse".

Released as a single in the summer of 1998, the song became a worldwide hit, and was a top-40 hit in several countries. In the U.S., it went reached number 9 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and on the R&B charts. "Touch It" was Monifah's highest peak position on the U.S. charts (though it did not reach a gold certification like her 1996 hit "You") and was her only single to reach the Billboard Year-End charts, reaching 77 on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1998. The song may also be remembered for its colorful music video that featured Monifah performing the song in front of the United States armed forces.

Touch It (Busta Rhymes song)

"Touch It" is a rap/hip-hop song by Busta Rhymes which contains a sample from "Technologic" by the electronic band Daft Punk. Released as an official single on May 1, 2006, it was the first single from Rhymes' Aftermath/Interscope debut, The Big Bang. The song charted well in New Zealand peaking at number one on the RIANZ Singles Chart.

Single release

The release date for the single in the US was 1 May 2006. However, due to UK chart rules allowing songs to chart on download sales alone, one week before the single's physical release, "Touch It" managed to make the top 40, entering at #23 on download sales only. After the physical single release, the song climbed to #6, its peak position. The song had a strong chart run initially, spending seven weeks inside the top 30 there, however, because the physical copies of the single were deleted, the single was withdrawn from the chart due to new chart rules stating that singles could only remain in the chart for two weeks after their physical deletion. This is why the record seemingly fell from the UK top 75 from the top 30. The song was also popular on the charts in the U.S., peaking at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the chart in New Zealand.

The Vindictives

The Vindictives are a Chicago-based punk rock group founded by singer/songwriter Joey Vindictive in 1990.

History

They began their career in 1990, cutting their first 7" record later that year with the lineup of Joey Vindictive (vocals), Johnny Personality (bass), Ben Weasel (guitar) (soon to be replaced by Billy Blastoff), Dr. Bob (guitar), and Erik Elsewhere (soon to be replaced by P.J. Parti) (drums). The band would end up releasing 12 EPs and albums until July 1996, when Joey Vindictive revealed that his health issues would prevent the band from going on.

Guitarist Robert "Dr. Bob" Nielson died of a heroin overdose on February 22, 2003. After Dr. Bob's death, The Vindictives released a pair of records containing material previously unavailable on CD and two new re-recordings; Muzak for Robots which was quirky electronic instrumental versions of their songs and Unplugged soft and toned-down acoustic versions of their works.

In 2004 Billy Blastoff left the Vindictives of his own accord took a year off music joined Lucky Savage in Chicago, Il as their drummer eventually forming the Gornys and switching over to bass in 2005 eventually renamed the John Doh's in 2010 and currently on hiatus.

Monifah

Monifah (born Monifa Carter; January 28, 1972 in Manhattan, New York) is an American R&B singer-songwriter. She is best known for her association with rapper Heavy D. and her music from the mid-1990s including 1998's Touch It. Monifah was raised in the Spanish Harlem section of New York City. She currently stars as one of six members on TV One's reality show R&B Divas : Atlanta. Monifah recently signed with and released a single "One Moment" with Famous Records / Famous Music Group based out of Sunrise, FL who distributes via Universal.

Career

In 1996, her debut album, Moods...Moments was released. In 1997, she contributed the Heavy D. produced "I Still Love You" to the soundtrack of the film, Sprung. Monifah's second album was Mo'hogany. Released in the last quarter of 1998, it featured "Touch It". The track peaked at #29 in the UK Singles Chart in January 1992. Monifah's third album Home, released in 2000 contained "I Can Tell", "Brown Eyes" and "Fairytales." In 2003, she played a supporting role in Michael Baisden's Men Cry In the Dark stage play. In August 2012, Monifah and R&B singers Syleena Johnson, Faith Evans, KeKe Wyatt, LaTocha Scott, Angie Stone, and Nicci Gilbert appeared in a reality show for TV One called R&B Divas. It was later retitled R&B Divas: Atlanta and Monifah has appeared on the subsequent second and third seasons, with LaTavia Roberson and Kameelah Williams joining the cast in season 3 on April 23, 2014. In 2012, she appeared on Faith Evans' compilation album "R&B Divas" on the single "Lovin' Me" in addition to her solo track "She's Me." The album was later nominated for a Grammy. She released a new single "The Other Side" which premiered in June 2014.
