Touba Department

Touba Department is a department of Bafing Region in Woroba District, Ivory Coast. In 2014, its population was 75,032 and its seat is the settlement of Touba. The sub-prefectures of the department are Dioman, Foungbesso, Guintéguéla, and Touba.

History

Touba Department was created in 1970 as one of the original 24 departments of the country. Using current boundaries as a reference, from 1970 to 2008 the department occupied the territory that is Bafing Region. This territory was organised into Bafing Region in 1978, which prompted a need to divide the department to avoid having a first- and second-level administrative division that were co-extensive in territory. However, the department was not split for another 20 years.

Touba Department was split in 2008 to create Koro Department and again in 2011 to create Ouaninou Department.
