Tonight was a BBC television current affairs programme presented by Cliff Michelmore and broadcast in Britain live on weekday evenings from February 1957 to 1965. The producers were the future Controller of BBC1 Donald Baverstock and the future Director-General of the BBC Alasdair Milne. The audience was typically seven million.
Tonight was, like Six-Five Special, created by the BBC to fill in the 'Toddlers' Truce' closed period between 6.00pm and 7.00pm (the 'Truce' was officially abolished only a few days before Tonight was first broadcast). Tonight began broadcasting from the Viking studio in Kensington, known by the BBC as 'studio M'. It eventually transferred to one of the main studios in Lime Grove, Shepherd's Bush, west London.
The programme covered the arts and sciences as well as topical matters and current affairs. There was a mixture of incisive and light-hearted items: unscripted studio interviews, by Derek Hart, Geoffrey Johnson-Smith and Michelmore himself; and filmed reports. Reporters included Alan Whicker, Fyfe Robertson, Kenneth Allsop, Chris Brasher, Julian Pettifer, Brian Redhead and Polly Elwes.
"Tonight" is a single by British R&B artist Jay Sean. The single was released on 18 January 2009 (iTunes) and 26 January 2009 (CD single), but the music video for the single was released much earlier, on 17 November 2008. The single is the fourth and final single from his second album My Own Way.
On 15 October 2008, Jay Sean announced that he had signed with American Hip-Hop label Cash Money Records, on the back scene at MOBO Awards. Jay explained “It’s always been a dream for me to sign to an American label. And it’s great to be accepted by the best in the game.”
The single includes a remix featuring rapper Lil Wayne, as Cash Money Records is releasing a remix in order to introduce Jay Sean to the American market. However the remix was canceled, and Sean recorded a new single for the American market called "Down" featuring Lil' Wayne.
My Own Way: Deluxe Edition was released on 16 February 2009 in the U.K. was set for release in the U.S., however the idea has been shelved and Jay Sean is working on a new album for the American market. The lead single is "Tonight" which was released on 26 January 2009. The album also has 2 additional songs, "Never Been In Love" and "I'm Gone", and 4 additional remixes.
Tonight is the sixteenth studio album by David Bowie, released in 1984. It followed his most commercially successful album, Let's Dance. He described the album, released immediately after his previous album's tour wrapped up, as an effort to "keep my hand in, so to speak," and to retain the new audience that he had recently acquired. Although the album was another immediate commercial success, reaching number one in the UK Albums Chart in October 1984, it has received mostly poor reviews from music critics and Bowie expressed dissatisfaction with it in later years.
David Bowie worked on Tonight after finishing up his Serious Moonlight Tour in support his previous album Let's Dance. He did not have much luck writing while on tour, so he described the process of recording the album Tonight this way:
Bowie purposefully sought to keep the sound of the band he'd used on the previous album and tour, feeling that the new fans he'd accumulated would expect to hear the same thing on the new album that they'd heard before, hence the inclusion of the "Borneo Horns" players on the album.
Meridian, or a meridian line may refer to
Meridian (plural: "meridians") is used in perimetry and in specifying visual fields. According to IPS Perimetry Standards 1978 (2002): "Perimetry is the measurement of [an observer's] visual functions ... at topographically defined loci in the visual field. The visual field is that portion of the external environment of the observer [in which when he or she is] steadily fixating ...[he or she] can detect visual stimuli."
In perimetry, the observer's eye is considered to be at the centre of an imaginary sphere. More precisely, the centre of the sphere is in the centre of the pupil of the observer's eye. The observer is looking at a point, the fixation point, on the interior of the sphere. The visual field can be considered to be all parts of the sphere for which the observer can see a particular test stimulus. If we consider this surface to be that on which an observer can see anything, then it is a section of the sphere somewhat larger than a hemisphere. In reality it is smaller than this, and irregular, because when the observer is looking straight ahead, his or her nose blocks vision of some possible parts of the surface. In perimetric testing, a section of the imaginary sphere is realized as a hemisphere in the centre of which is a fixation point. Test stimuli can be displayed on the hemisphere.
An (astronomical) meridian is the great circle passing through the celestial poles, the zenith, and the nadir of a particular location. Consequently, it contains also the horizon's north and south points, and it is perpendicular to the celestial equator and to the celestial horizon. A celestial meridian matches the projection, onto the celestial sphere, of a terrestrial meridian. Hence there are an infinite number of meridians.
The meridian is undefined when the observer is at the North Pole or South Pole, since at these two points, the zenith and nadir are on the celestial poles, and any great circle passing the celestial poles passes the zenith and nadir.
There are several ways in which the meridian can be divided into semicircles. In one way, it's divided into the local meridian and the antimeridian. The former semicircle contains the zenith and is terminated by the celestial poles; the latter semicircle contains the nadir. In the horizontal coordinate system the meridian is divided into halves terminated by the horizon's north and south points. The upper meridian passes through the zenith, and the lower meridian, through the nadir.
