Visions (Haken album)

Visions is the second studio album of progressive metal band Haken. The album was released mostly for the attention of people at ProgPower USA on 17 September 2011, with an official release date set for 24 October 2011.

Reception

Visions received high praise from Sea of Tranquility webzine. It was described as "a staggeringly brilliant example of progressive metal" by Pete Pardo and "probably the final progressive masterpiece of 2011" by Murat Batmaz.

Visions is an album by American jazz guitarist Grant Green featuring performances recorded in 1971 and released on the Blue Note label.

Reception

The Allmusic review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine awarded the album 3 stars and stated "Visions is a bit laid-back, and the electric piano-heavy arrangements are a little dated, but Grant Green never made a commercial pop-jazz album as appealing and satisfying".

Dave Lee (DJ)

Dave Lee (born 18 June 1964) is a British DJ and house music producer, also known by the stage name Joey Negro. He has released music under a variety of pseudonyms, including Jakatta, Doug Willis, Raven Maize, Sessomatto as well as being part of The Sunburst Band. Lee has scored a number of Top 40 hits, among them "American Dream", "So Lonely" and "My Vision", all under the name Jakatta.

Early life

Lee was born on the Isle of Wight, but raised in Thorpe-le-Soken in Essex. His mother is the novelist Maureen Lee.

Career

Velocifero

Velocifero is the fourth studio album by English electronic band Ladytron and their first to be released by Nettwerk. The album was made available on the iTunes Store as of 19 May 2008, followed by a physical release on 2 June in the United Kingdom and on 3 June elsewhere. Velocifero peaked at number seventy-five on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the band's second highest-charting album to date in the UK (after Gravity the Seducer reached number seventy-two in 2011). It was also their first album to chart on the US Billboard 200, reaching number 131.

According to band member Reuben Wu, "velocifero" literally means "bringer of speed", and is also the name of a classic retro-styled scooter. "Black Cat" and "Kletva" are both sung entirely in Bulgarian. "Kletva" (which means "oath") is a cover of a song from a solo album by Kiril Marichkov of Bulgarian rock band Shturtzite. Daniel Hunt provided additional vocals on "Versus".

Velocifero produced three singles: "Ghosts", "Runaway" and "Tomorrow".

Tomorrow (song from Annie)

"Tomorrow" is a song from the musical Annie, with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, published in 1977. The number was originally written as "The Way We Live Now" for the 1970 short film Replay, with both music and lyrics by Strouse.

Production history in the musical

It had appeared in prominence in productions of the musical throughout its history: it was heard in several versions in the original 1977 Broadway production, including ending the show. It was the entry and concluding credits score for the 1982 film adaptation.

Discussion

The song apparently pronounces an optimistic view of life through its main themes, 'hang on until tomorrow' and 'when I'm stuck with a day that's grey and lonely, I just stick out my chin and grin'. It appears to be in unison with another song in the score, "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile", which again pronounces the importance of smiling, though in a much lighter and cheerful tone.

The lyrics were likely influenced by the song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow", written by the Sherman Brothers for Disney's Carousel of Progress attraction for the 1964 New York World's Fair. The songs have very similar themes, stressing the importance of looking forward optimistically to a shining future, and in some places use almost identical lyrical phrases (compare "just a dream away" and "only a day away," for example).

Tomorrow (TV series)

Tomorrow (also known as The Tomorrow Show and, after 1980, Tomorrow Coast to Coast) is an American late-night television talk show hosted by Tom Snyder. The show aired on NBC from 1973 to 1982 and featured many prominent guests, including John Lennon (in his last televised interview), Paul McCartney, "Weird Al" Yankovic (in his first televised appearance), Ayn Rand, Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead, Public Image Ltd, Ken Kesey, Charles Manson, The Clash, Ramones, and U2 (in their first American television appearance). Los Angeles news anchor Kelly Lange, a good friend of Snyder, was the regular substitute guest host.

History and format overview

In fall 1973 NBC's decision to launch a nightly program after the Tonight Show was prompted by the 1971 Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act which banned tobacco advertising on television, resulting in a loss of revenue for the network. The thinking was that extending the broadcast day by one hour could help recover some of that income.
