Tommy Quinn

Tom Quinn (11 August 1908 – 11 November 1969) was a leading Australian rules footballer of the 1920s and 1930s, playing for Port Adelaide Football Club and Geelong Football Club.

Born in Birkenhead, South Australia, the son of former Port Adelaide captain Jack Quinn and the older brother of dual Magarey Medallist Bob, Quinn showed aptitude for football from a young age, and standing 170 cm tall and built like a tank, Quinn made his South Australian National Football League (SANFL) debut for Port as a rover in 1928. Quinn immediately made his mark, becoming a key member of the 1928 Port premiership team. Quinn played 59 matches for Port in three seasons plus six for South Australia before finding himself unemployed in the wake of the Great Depression.

Quinn had attracted interest from Victorian Football League (VFL) clubs at the 1930 Adelaide Carnival with his performances for South Australia, and when Geelong offered Quinn employment with the Ford Motor Company, a club sponsor, as a machine operator, Quinn leapt at the opportunity and transferred to Geelong for the 1931 VFL season. Gaining the nickname "Maggie" for his Port Adelaide heritage, Quinn immediately proved a success in the VFL, being a key player in Geelong's 1931 premiership team and became a firm favorite with Geelong fans.

Michael Scofield

Michael Scofield, (played by Wentworth Miller), is the protagonist of the series and younger brother of Lincoln Burrows. He designs an elaborate escape plan and tattoos it to his body to free his older brother who has been framed for murder and sentenced to death via the electric chair. He successfully executes this plan, freeing himself, Lincoln and 6 other convicts, but ultimately fails to evade the police in Panama. Season 3 is centered around Michael breaking from prison again, however this time from the self-governed prison of SONA, situated in Panama. In season 4, he reunites with Sara after discovering her death in season 3 was faked, and she is part of Agent Donald Self's covert "A-Team", which is assembled to bring down The Company. He has low latent inhibition, a personality trait which allows him to notice things that others would not. This, along with his genius-level intellect, is what enabled him to break out of both prisons. He also suffers from a tumor of the hypothalamus, which cause nosebleeds, disorientation, and extreme pain.

Tommy Oliver

Thomas "Tommy" Oliver is a character from the universe of the American live action television franchise Power Rangers. He is a main character in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series, as well as four of its successive incarnations Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo, and Power Rangers Dino Thunder (where he returns as a legendary Power Ranger veteran). He also appeared in the Power Rangers Wild Force episode "Forever Red", the Power Rangers S.P.D. episode "Wormhole", and in the Power Rangers Super Megaforce episode "Legendary Battle. He has been portrayed by actor Jason David Frank in most all of his appearances, but in the episode "Wormhole", he appeared only in Ranger form and was voiced by actor Jeffrey Parazzo. He was also infrequently portrayed by actor Michael R. Gotto in instances where the story required depicting the character during childhood, such as in the series Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers.

According to the character's fictional history, Tommy is a legend among the Power Rangers community and is considered to be the greatest Power Ranger of all time, having been five different Power Rangers — the Green Ranger, the White Ranger, Zeo Ranger V–Red, the Red Turbo Ranger, and the Dino Thunder Black Ranger — and a part of four Ranger teams over the years. In addition, Tommy is a lifelong practitioner of the martial arts; during the first season of Power Rangers, he was referred to as having a third-degree black belt in karate. Tommy (Kipling poem)

Tommy is an 1890 poem by Rudyard Kipling, reprinted in his 1892 Barrack-Room Ballads. The poem addresses the ordinary British soldier of Kipling's time in a sympathetic manner. It is written from the point of view of such a soldier, and contrasts the treatment they receive from the general public during peace and during war.

Background

The Tommy of the poem is Tommy Atkins, a generic slang name for a common British soldier. A term of uncertain origin, the name "Thomas Atkins" was used in nineteenth century War Office manuals as a placeholder name to demonstrate how forms should be filled out. In popular use, "Thomas" became the more familiar "Tommy".

The poem

The poem is written in a colloquial style of English, and is comprised of five verses of eight lines each. The second half of each verse begin with a variation of the refrain "it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that".

The narrator is a British soldier named Tommy Atkins. In the poem, the soldier talks about the respectful way he is treated by others when he is needed to fight a war and presents it as a bitter contrast against the poor treatment he receives when he is not. For example, he laments being refused service by a pub owner for being a "redcoat".
