Tom Hall

Tom A. Hall (born September 2, 1964) is a game designer born in Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he received a B.S. in Computer Science.

Career

In 1987, he worked at Softdisk Inc., where he was both a programmer and the editor of Softdisk, a software bundle delivered monthly. Along with some of his co-workers, John Carmack, John Romero and Adrian Carmack, he founded id Software. He served as creative director and designer there, working upon games such as the Commander Keen series, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, and Doom.

After some disputes with John Carmack about the design for Doom and the amount of gore and violence, he left id Software in August 1993 to join Apogee/3D Realms. He was the game designer for Rise of the Triad, produced Terminal Velocity, and helped in varying degrees on Duke Nukem II and Duke Nukem 3D as well. He also worked on the Prey engine until August 12, 1996, when he left Apogee.

Next Hall co-founded Ion Storm with John Romero, where he produced Anachronox. The company also produced the 2000 Game of the Year, Deus Ex, in which Hall voiced one of the characters. He and John then founded Monkeystone Games, a company with the goal of producing mobile games in the then new mobile industry. He designed, and Romero programmed, Hyperspace Delivery Boy!, which was released on December 23, 2001.

Tom Hall (cricketer, born 1930)

Thomas Auckland Hall (19 August 1930 – 21 April 1984) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1949 to 1952, for Somerset from 1953 to 1954 and for MCC between 1951 and 1955.

Hall was born at Darlington, County Durham and was educated at Uppingham School where he captained the first XI in 1948. He joined Derbyshire in the 1949 season playing two games for the second XI and made his first-class debut against Nottinghamshire in August 1949 when he neither scored nor took a wicket. However he returned for the first half of the 1950 season and against Surrey batting 9th man made 52, the highest score in a total of 147. During the season, he took 5 wickets for 60 against Hampshire. In the 1951 season he took 36 wickets at 23.69 with 5 for 57 against Leicestershire. In non-county matches that year, he took the wicket of Len Hutton three times in one week, once for MCC and twice in a match for Gentlemen v Players and turned out to be Hutton's nemesis in many subsequent matches. He played two county games for Derbyshire in the 1952 season and otherwise played for MCC and Free Foresters.

Tom Hall (baseball)

Thomas Edward Hall (born November 23, 1947) is an American former professional baseball player, a left-handed pitcher who played in the Major Leagues from 1968 to 1977. Listed at 6 feet (180 cm) tall and 150 pounds (68 kg), he was nicknamed "The Blade" for his slender physique.

Hall played for the Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, and Kansas City Royals during his Major League career. He was with the Reds during their early years as the "Big Red Machine", during which time they won 2 National League Western Division championships and one National League pennant.

Hall made his final Major League appearance on May 21, 1977, with the Royals. He had a career record of 52-33 with 32 saves.

Tom Hall (American football)

Thomas Francis Hall (born April 3, 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware) is a former American football wide receiver who played in the National Football League. He played eight seasons for the Detroit Lions (1962–1963), the Minnesota Vikings (1964–1966, 1968–1969), and the New Orleans Saints (1967). He played college football at the University of Minnesota.

In 1980, Hall was inducted into the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame.

Hall's eclectic works flourish by utilising a variety of mediums, each that reflect on his varied background and interests. With a strong focus on elements of the 'everyday' Hall's practice involves considered explorations into place, space and time. Drawing inspiration from countless 'peripheral' spaces, Hall focuses on using multiple approaches to engage and recontextualise them to the public.

Hall focuses and uses sound as a means to translate feeling, create hybrid environments and notions of journey. Stylistically these outcomes vary from noise orientated improvisation, to structured drone and melody.

Biography

Tom Hall is a graduate of The Australian National University with Honours where he majored in Photomedia, studying under the guidance of Dr. Martyn Jolly. During Hall's time at university he spent 1 year abroad on a scholarship studying sound and moving image at Kyoto Seika University under the guidance of Saburo Hirano and Shinsuke Ina where Hall made extensive developments in audio/visual processing working with Max/Msp/Jitter and Ableton Live.
