Today (Jefferson Airplane song)

"Today" is a folk rock ballad written by Marty Balin and Paul Kantner from the band Jefferson Airplane. It first appeared on their breakthrough album, Surrealistic Pillow, with a live version later appearing on the expanded rerelease of Bless Its Pointed Little Head. Marty Balin said, "I wrote it to try to meet Tony Bennett. He was recording in the next studio. I admired him, so I thought I'd write him a song. I never got to meet him, but the Airplane ended up doing it." Jerry Garcia plays the simple, repetitive but poignant lead guitar riff on the song.

Tom Scott covered the song on his 1967 album, Honeysuckle Breeze. The song features a quicker tempo than the Jefferson Airplane version and also features a long saxophone solo. The song also appears in the episode, "Riley Wuz Here" of the animated television series, The Boondocks. Parts of the saxophone solo were sampled in the Pete Rock & CL Smooth song They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.).

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow states "Flutist Herbie Mann has always had wide interests in music. For this...LP he is joined by three brass, vibraphonist Dave Pike, bassist Earl May, drummer Bruno Carr and percussionist Patato Valdes (with arrangements by Oliver Nelson) for a wide-ranging program that includes two Beatles songs, a selection from Burt Bacharach and two ancient pieces by Duke Ellington ("Creole Love Call" and "The Mooche"). In general Mann plays quite well but there is little memorable about this generally commercial effort. ".

Today (Perry Como album)

Today was Perry Como's 29th and final album for RCA Records and of his 50 year music career. This is also the penultimate recording ever made by Perry Como, the last being for a Christmas special in 1994. This album is also significant in that it was the first and only album of Como's career to be released contemporaneously in both vinyl LP format and compact disc.

The song "Wind Beneath My Wings", recorded for this album in 1987, two years before it was a hit for Bette Midler, was meant to be somewhat autobiographical. Como also sang this song some 5 years earlier as a tribute to Como's boyhood idol, Bing Crosby.

Kate Micucci (pronounced /mᵻˈkuːtʃi/; born March 31, 1980) is an American actress, comedian, singer-songwriter, and artist. She is one half of the musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates. Her first major television exposure was her role as Stephanie Gooch in Scrubs. Later she portrayed Shelley in Raising Hope and Raj's girlfriend, Lucy in The Big Bang Theory. She also provides the voice of Velma Dinkley in Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, and Sadie in Steven Universe.

Early life

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, of Italian ancestry, Micucci was raised in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley region of the state, where she first learned to play classical piano, taught by her mother. She graduated alongside rock musician Jordan White in 1998 from Nazareth Area High School. Micucci then received an A.A. in Fine Arts from Keystone College in La Plume, Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Studio Art in 2003 from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles.

Career

Micucci's TV credits include numerous television commercials, as well as Toni the barista on NBC's Four Kings, guest roles on Malcolm in the Middle, 'Til Death, How I Met Your Mother, Cory in the House, and Campus Ladies, and recurring roles on Scrubs and Raising Hope. Her film credits include The Last Hurrah, Bart Got a Room and When in Rome. She plays "Lily the IT girl" on Elevator produced by HBO's Runawaybox. In early 2009, she released a five-track EP entitled Songs.
