Tino Carraro (1 December 1910 – 13 January 1995) was an Italian stage, television and film actor.
Born Agostino Carraro in Milan, he started acting at young age in several amateur stage companies. Carraro then graduated at the Accademia dei filodrammatici, and in 1941 he got his first personal critical success with his performance in an adaptation of Anna Karenina. In 1952 he made his film debut, in the Duilio Coletti's war film I sette dell'Orsa Maggiore. The same year, Carraro became first actor at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, starting a long and critically apprecciated collaboration with the director Giorgio Strehler. Carraro is also well-known for his television work, which include some very successful RAI miniseries, particularly Sandro Bolchi's Il Mulino del Po, I Miserabili and I promessi sposi and Vittorio Cottafavi's A come Andromeda.
Tino may refer to:
Tino is an Italian island situated in the Ligurian Sea, at the westernmost end of the Gulf of La Spezia. It is part of an archipelago of three closely spaced islands jutting out south from the mainland at Portovenere. The largest of the three, Palmaria, lies to the north and the tiny Tinetto to the south.
In 1997, the archipelago, together with Portovenere and the Cinque Terre, was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The patron saint of the Gulf of La Spezia, Saint Venerius (Italian San Venerio), is said to have lived in on the island as a hermit, and later as abbot, until his death in 630. His feast is celebrated here annually on 13 September. It is thought that a sanctuary was constructed at the place of Venerio's death to contain his remains and that this was extended to form a monastery in eleventh century. The remains of the monastery can be seen on the northern coast of the island.
Today the island, which is part of a military zone, is surmounted by the San Venerio Lighthouse.
Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park was an amusement park on the west shore of Lai Chi Kok Bay in Lai Chi Kok, Hong Kong. It was once the largest amusement park in Hong Kong, and attracted people from all walks of life in the territory.
The park was originally opened by businessman Cheung Kwan On in 1949. In 1961, Deacon Chiu purchased the park and started improving it. In 1976, the park started losing business to Ocean Park.
In 1995 the Ferris wheel was temporarily closed because engineers were dissatisfied with its condition.
The admission fee started at 60 HK cents for both adult and child admission, but by 1997 it had risen to HK$12–$25. A monorail, which cost $13, let visitors get a view of the whole park.
On 31 March 1997, the park was closed after the Hong Kong Government decided to use the land for residential public housing. Many additional visitors came to the park as it was about to close, and there were 80,000 visitors on the last two days alone. The animals from the zoo were sent to Shek Kwu Chau.
