Timecop

Timecop is a 1994 science fiction action film directed by Peter Hyams and co-written by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden. Richardson also served as executive producer. The film is based on Time Cop, a story written by Verheiden and drawn by Phil Hester and Chris Warner which appeared in the anthology comic Dark Horse Comics, published by Dark Horse Comics.

The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as a police officer in 1994 and a U.S. Federal agent in 2004, when time travel has been made possible. It also stars Ron Silver as a rogue politician and Mia Sara as the agent's wife. The story follows an interconnected web of episodes in the agent's life as he fights time-travel crime and investigates the politician's unusually successful career.

Timecop remains Van Damme's highest grossing film (his second to break the $100 million barrier for a worldwide gross) as a lead actor. It is generally regarded as one of Van Damme's better films by critics.

Plot

By 1994, time travel has been discovered and used for illicit purposes. The U.S. government creates the Time Enforcement Commission (TEC) to police the use of time travel. Senator Aaron McComb offers to oversee the commission. Police officer Max Walker is offered a position in TEC which he takes. When he returns home that evening to tell his wife Melissa the news, he is attacked by unknown assailants and thrown out of his house. He recovers just as his house explodes, killing Melissa.

Timecop (video game)

Timecop (タイムコップ, Taimukoppu) is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game that is loosely based on the movie of the same name. Levels range from locales in the past (e.g., New York City during the 1920s, the European front of World War II), the present day, and a dystopian Los Angeles of the distant future.

Although the game was only released for the Super Nintendo, it was also developed for the Sega CD, with a short demo being distributed in May 1995 alongside the European Sega Pro magazine. Despite being fully completed by the developer, JVC pulled off the Sega CD version publishing and it remained unreleased. In 2007, a complete version of the game was eventually released on the Internet by the Sega CD version coder.

Gameplay

Players must stop the original inventor of time travel, Dr. Hans Kleindast and he must fix all the wrong things that Kleindast does in the game. There are 15 levels in all; most of them are standard platforming levels. Some levels involve the use of a player-controlled vehicle and use of martial arts.

Timecop (comics)

Timecop was a story in the anthology comic Dark Horse Comics and a two issue comic book adaptation of the eponymous film published along with the film's release in September 1994. The film and its sequel were both written by Mike Richardson, the founder and publisher of Dark Horse Comics.

His company published the adaptations which were themselves written by Mark Verheiden, and drawn by Ron Randall. The film also spawned a Timecop TV series in 1997 and a video game in 1995.

Publication history

Time Cop: "A Man Out of Time" ran in Dark Horse Comics #1-3 (August–October 1992).

The two-part film adaptation was published in 1994.

Plot synopsis

The original story involves the main character catching an illegal time traveler robbing a South African mine of a huge diamond in the 1930s. After his capture and return, however, Walker is soon made aware that the criminal's personal robotic bodyguard is still operational in the past and wreaking havoc on the time line. To restore order, Walker must return to the mine and stop the machine's malfunctioning rampage.
