Tim Mahoney

Timothy Edward "Tim" Mahoney (born August 16, 1956) was a U.S. Representative for Florida's 16th congressional district and a member of the Democratic Party. He was elected in November 2006 after his opponent, six-term Republican incumbent Mark Foley, resigned on September 29, 2006, after questions were raised about an email exchange with a congressional page.

In October 2008, media outlets began reporting allegations that Mahoney paid hush money to a mistress to conceal an extramarital affair.

Tim Mahoney ran for reelection in 2008 but lost the November 4 election to Republican Tom Rooney.

Early life and career

Mahoney was born in Aurora, Illinois. He grew up in Summit, New Jersey, and graduated from Summit High School in 1974. He obtained a bachelor's degree in computer science and business from West Virginia University in 1978 and an M.B.A. from George Washington University in 1983.

Mahoney began his career in the computer business. After seven years, he achieved wealth when a company he was working for, Tecmar, which sold personal computer accessories, was sold. In 1986, he moved to Florida and became president of Rodime Systems, a division of Rodime Inc. Rodime Inc., for which Mahoney was also vice president of marketing and sales, manufactured disc drives that were packaged for the retail market by Rodime Systems. In 1995, Mahoney and business partner, Lenny Sokolow, started Union Atlantic, LLC, a venture capital firm. His inability to get the firm listed on vFinance.com, a fledgling matchmaking Web site for venture capitalists and cash-hungry entrepreneurs, led him and Sokolow to purchase the website in 1998, merging it with Union Atlantic.

Tim Mahoney (born September 21, 1953) is a Minnesota politician and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represents District 67A, which includes all or portions of the Saint Paul Greater East Side, Payne-Phalen, Hayden Heights, Frost Lake, Hillcrest and Phalen Village neighborhoods in Ramsey County, which is in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Early life, education, and career

Mahoney is the fifth child of Francis and Eleanor Mahoney. He was raised on the East Side of Saint Paul, graduating in 1971 from Harding High School. He attended Saint Paul Technical College to become a union pipefitter.

Mahoney was first elected to the House in 1998, when incumbent Rep. Jim Farrell ran for Ramsey County Attorney. He defeated fellow DFLers Michele Ford, a legislative staffer, and Brian McMahon, a housing specialist, in the 1998 DFL primary election; he went on to defeat Republican Julie Glanz and Reform candidate Andy Lamotte in the general election. 311 (pronounced "three-eleven") is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. The band was formed in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Nick Hexum, lead guitarist Jim Watson (who would later be replaced by Tim Mahoney), bassist Aaron "P-Nut" Wills and drummer Chad Sexton. In 1992, Doug "SA" Martinez joined to sing and provide turntables for 311's later albums, rounding out the current line-up. The band's name originates from the police code for indecent exposure in Omaha, Nebraska, after the original guitarist for the band was arrested for streaking.

To date, 311 has released eleven studio albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, four EPs and four DVDs. After a series of independent releases, 311 was signed to Capricorn Records in 1992 and released the albums Music (1993) and Grassroots (1994) to moderate success. They achieved greater success with their 1995 triple platinumself-titled album, which reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of the singles "Down" and "All Mixed Up", the former of which topped the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks in 1996. The band's next three albums, Transistor (1997), Soundsystem (1999) and From Chaos (2001), did not achieve the massive success of the self-titled album, though they were still successful, with the first going platinum and the last two going gold. Their 2004 compilation album Greatest Hits '93–'03 was also certified gold. The band's most recent studio album is 2014's Stereolithic. As of 2011, 311 has sold over 8.5 million records in the US.
