'Tiki Taane, is a New Zealand-based musician, experimentalist, musical activist, producer, live engineer. He was a member of leading New Zealand band Salmonella Dub but left after 11 years on 1 January 2007 to pursue a solo career. His debut album, "Past, Present, Future", was released on 22 October 2007 in New Zealand and has since gone two times platinum, achieving a number one single, "Always On My Mind", which is the most successful single of all time in New Zealand. Becoming the first digital single to reach platinum sales and also holds the record by staying in the NZ Top 40 Charts for 55 weeks. Taane is also the exclusive live sound engineer for New Zealand drum and bass act Shapeshifter since their first gig in 1999. Taane has also produced multi platinum albums for bands such as Six60, Salmonella Dub and Tiki Taane.
Taane was born on 17 December 1976. In 1996, Taane was asked to become live soundman to Christchurch band Salmonella Dub, who were becoming one of NZ’s most popular acts. Through this role, Tiki began to earn himself a reputation for his ability to bring a staggeringly powerful live sound to whatever equipment, venue or environment he was faced with. His time with his metal bands Cultivation and Braaspadeak had become minuscule and irregular, and while on tour with the Dub, Tiki had composed a dub-reggae track in his hotel room. Once he shared it with Salmonella, they recorded it straight away. Tiki and his whanau and friends set to work making a music video featuring Tiki on tour at The Gathering that year. This track, "For the Love Of It", shot into the NZ charts and became a summertime anthem. And so he became faced with not only being soundman for the band, but also the public expectation that he perform his hit song at all their gigs.
Okay
The town's dawning, I'm the only one awake
The streets are whistling, I light my fourth cigarette
I think of my friends, they were once not so dead
What are they thinking now?
One day I'll be just a little stone
Nobody'll know that the stone had such emotions
Anyway I'm always on the run
Someday I'll be remembered for the phone calls I never made
Letters I never mailed
And stories I never finished telling anyone
The town's yawning, I let my dog walk me around
He took a shoot and people smiled
I tried the same and people frowned
Yes, it's a dog, dogtown
One day let's be a pair of trees
Nobody'll know that the trees had such a history
Anyway, wed never be this lonely
Someday I'll be remembered for the fine words I meant to keep
A warm smile I meant to leave
And a true song I meant to finish writing all my life
Yes, it's a dogtown, it's a dogtown
Yes, it's a dogtown, it's a dogtown
Dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dogtown
Peas porridge luck, peas porridge stuck
Peas porridge in the pot nine years old
Some gets paid, some gets grades
Some stays in the pot nine years old
Yes, it's a dogtown, it's a dogtown
Yes, it's a dogtown, it's a dogtown
Dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dogtown
Peas porridge loved, peas porridge spoiled
Peas porridge in the pot nine years old
Some gets laid, some gets slayed
Some stays in the pot nine years old
Yes, it's a dogtown, it's a dogtown
Yes, it's a dogtown, it's a dogtown
Dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dog, dogtown
Dogtown, dogtown, dogtown, dogtown
