Tiger

The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest cat species, reaching a total body length of up to 3.38 m (11.1 ft) over curves and exceptionally weighing up to 388.7 kg (857 lb) in the wild. Its most recognisable feature is a pattern of dark vertical stripes on reddish-orange fur with a lighter underside. The species is classified in the genus Panthera with the lion, leopard, jaguar and snow leopard. Tigers are apex predators, primarily preying on ungulates such as deer and bovids. They are territorial and generally solitary but social animals, often requiring large contiguous areas of habitat that support their prey requirements. This, coupled with the fact that they are indigenous to some of the more densely populated places on Earth, has caused significant conflicts with humans.

Tigers once ranged widely across Asia, from Turkey in the west to the eastern coast of Russia. Over the past 100 years, they have lost 93% of their historic range, and have been extirpated from southwest and central Asia, from the islands of Java and Bali, and from large areas of Southeast and Eastern Asia. Today, they range from the Siberian taiga to open grasslands and tropical mangrove swamps. The remaining six tiger subspecies have been classified as endangered by IUCN. The global population in the wild is estimated to number between 3,062 and 3,948 individuals, down from around 100,000 at the start of the 20th century, with most remaining populations occurring in small pockets isolated from each other, of which about 2,000 exist on the Indian subcontinent. Major reasons for population decline include habitat destruction, habitat fragmentation and poaching. The extent of area occupied by tigers is estimated at less than 1,184,911 km² (457,497 sq mi), a 41% decline from the area estimated in the mid-1990s.

Tiger is an ABBA song featured on their 1976 album Arrival.

Performance

In the 1977 concert tours, the song was preceded by "the sound of helicopters booming over the speakers".

In the ABBA tribute band concert Live Music of Abba by the Arrival From Sweden, Tiger was the show opener.

Critical reception

Bright lights, dark shadows: the real story of Abba described the song as "rocky". The Guardian described the song as "gripping".

An American Tail is a 1986 American animated musical adventure film directed by Don Bluth and produced by Sullivan Bluth Studios and Amblin Entertainment. It tells the story of Fievel Mousekewitz and his family as they immigrate from Russia to the United States for freedom. However, he gets lost and must find a way to reunite with them. Steven Spielberg's first foray into animation and his first with Bluth, it was released on November 21, 1986 to positive reviews and was a box office hit, making it the highest-grossing non-Disney animated film at the time. The success of it, The Land Before Time, and Disney's Who Framed Roger Rabbit, as well as Bluth's departure from their partnership, prompted Spielberg to establish his own animation studio, Amblimation, which would later become DreamWorks Animation, which he cofounded with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen.

Plot

In 1885, Shostka, Russia, the Mousekewitzes—a Russian-Jewish family of mice—who live with a human family named Moskowitz are having a celebration of Hanukkah where Papa gives his hat to his son, Fievel, and tells of a wonderful place called America, where there are no cats. The celebration is interrupted when a battery of Cossacks ride through the village square in an arson attack and their cats likewise attack the village mice.

Golden (Jill Scott song)

"Golden" is the first single released by American soul and R&B singer-songwriter Jill Scott, from her third album Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2. The song peaked at 59 on the UK Singles Chart. It was also featured in 2008's Grand Theft Auto IV game and soundtrack, and also is played in the films Beauty Shop (2005) and Obsessed (2009).

Golden (sculpture)

Golden is a modern art sculpture due to be installed in the Chatterley Valley, on the outskirts of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent in 2014. The £180,000 artwork is being placed on the site of the former Goldendale Ironworks and was designed by the award-winning public art sculptor Wolfgang Buttress, who designed the Rise sculpture in Belfast. It will be one of the tallest public art sculptures in Britain. The proposed site is currently occupied by the Potteries Pyramid, which has been erroneously placed there since 2007.

Funding

The sculpture was privately funded using £180,000 of Section 106 monies set aside to provide new public art or maintain current public art in the area. The money was secured following the construction of the Blue Planet eco-warehouse built by construction firm Glazeley further along the Chatterley Valley, in the neighbouring borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme. Stoke-on-Trent city council put the project out to tender in February 2011 and a number of designs were put forward.

Tigers (League of Legends)

ROX Tigers, formerly known as HUYA Tigers, GE Tigers, KOO Tigers and simply Tigers, is a professional League of Legends team based in South Korea.

Chinese social networking site YY acquired a Korean team to promote their newly renamed online streaming service in Korea. YY's parent company Guongzhou Huaduo Network Technology, LLC. (Duowan Inc) hopes to promote their newly renamed streaming site, HUYA.com, in Korea by creating a team built around well known Korean players. The team was registered under Duowan's Korean subsidiary GE Entertainment. They are not currently a part of the KeSPA organization. The team competes in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) league.

In the 2015 League of Legends World Championship the Tigers placed second in their preliminary group before beating KT Rolster and Fnatic in the bracket stage. The team garnered second place after facing SK Telecom T1 in the finals in Berlin, Germany.

History

2014

Tigers is a Korean League of Legends team that was founded in November 2014, sponsored by Chinese streaming company YY. The initial roster, announced under the name HUYA Tigers, included former members of NaJin Sword, NaJin Shield, and Incredible Miracle 1: Smeb (Top), Lee (Jungle), KurO (Mid), PraY (AD Carry), and GorillA (Support) comprised the initial lineup, with NoFe as a coach. Shortly after its formation, the team qualified for the League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Qualifiers, placing first in the group stage over Team Avalanche. They went 2–1 in the final stage and successfully qualified for SBENU Champions Spring 2015. In the Champions Spring pre-season, HUYA Tigers finished tied for third place with KT Rolster, each with 7 points. They renamed to GE Tigers at the start of the Spring Season.
