The District

The District is a television police drama which aired on CBS from October 7, 2000 to May 1, 2004. The show followed the work and personal life of the chief of Washington, D.C.'s Police Department (MPDC).

Premise

Former Newark, New Jersey Police Commissioner and New York Transit Police Officer Jack Mannion is hired as the commissioner of the bureaucracy-laden D.C. Police Force. Together with his detectives and allies he must fight crime as well as internal corruption and the powers of Congress in order to reorganize and renovate the force.

The District was inspired by the real-life experience of former New York Deputy Police Commissioner Jack Maple. Along with Police Commissioner William Bratton they had reorganized the NYPD and one of the achievements was the CompStat program (comparative statistics) since 1994 that has its own major role in the TV series. After the success in New York the CompStat program has been adapted by other cities however Jack Maple himself chose to publish his experiences - along with Chris Mitchell he wrote a book (The Crime Fighter, 2000) and along with Terry George he prepared a TV series concept. His impact on the story line was limited as he died of colon cancer on August 4, 2001.

The District - Dasmariñas (also called District Mall Salawag by local residents), is a mall owned by Ayala Land, located at the boundary of the cities of Bacoor (Brgy. Molino IV) and Dasmariñas. This is the second District mall in the province of Cavite (and also the mall's portfolio) along with the another District in Brgy. Anabu, Imus; as well as third in farther south in Bacolod in Negros Occidental. The Ayala owned subdivision Avida Village Sta. Catalina and Avida Settings (both were under the company's Avida Land subsidiary) are also located here.

The District Weekly was a weekly alternative newspaper published in Long Beach, California, USA. It was founded in 2007, and published weekly issues between April 2007 and March 2010, going out of business shortly before its third anniversary.

The District Weekly was started by several former employees of the OC Weekly, then headquartered in Santa Ana. They included Patt Buchanan, Miles Clements, Theo Douglas, Ellen Griley, Steve Lowery, Heather Swaim, Will Swaim, Dave Wielenga, and Chris Ziegler.

Like other alternate papers, the District mixed news stories, feature stories, and extensive entertainment listings.

The District primarily covered Long Beach, but also surrounding cities; and for a time featured a separate, ill-fated Orange County edition that was eventually discontinued.

It was available free of charge, and was designed to be advertiser-supported—following the "traditional" model of many alternative weekly newspapers.

But advertising lagged, to the degree where the District found itself hamstrung by those of its continuing advertisers who did not keep up with their bills.

The District - Imus, also known as District Mall - Anabu and previously known as 'The District - Cavite', is a shopping mall owned by the Ayala Land. It is the first Ayala Mall in the province of Cavite.

The District! (Hungarian: Nyócker!) is a 2004 Hungarian caricaturistic animated film directed by Áron Gauder. Its original title is a shortened colloquial form of nyolcadik kerület, the eighth district of Budapest, also known as Józsefváros, including an infamous neighbourhood where the film takes place. It is sometimes labelled as the Hungarian South Park.

It has been distributed in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, United Kingdom, France, the Benelux countries, Romania, Poland, Portugal and Taiwan, and it is going to be shown in the United States.

It was also shown at film festivals in Helsinki, Toronto, Copenhagen, Zagreb, Karlovy Vary and the below venues and it will be shown in Warsaw, Vancouver and São Paulo.

The animated technique for this movie was rather innovative. The artists took 350 headshot pictures of each actor and used these photos for the expressing emotions and the animation of the heads. The bodies were hand drawn.

Plot

The film displays the Hungarian, Roma, Chinese and Arab dwellers and their alliances and conflicts in a humorous way, embedded into a fictive story of a few schoolchildren's oil-making time-travel and a Romeo and Juliet-type love of a Roma guy towards a white girl.
