Thorsten Quandt
Thorsten Quandt is the professor of online communication at the University of Münster, Germany. He has a a particular interest in digital games and online journalism. He (co)authored more than 100 scientific articles and several books, including Participatory Journalism, which was influential in establishing the Citizen journalism model. He edited numerous books, primarily in the field of online media and digital games research, including Multiplayer and The Video Game Debate. His work was awarded with several scientific prizes, including international Top Paper Awards, the dissertation award of the German Communication Association, and an ERC grant (European Excellency Programme).
Education and career
Quandt graduated with a Masters degree in Communication Studies from the University of Bochum. He began teaching in 1998 at the Technical University of Ilmenau, where he received his doctoral degree in 2004. From 2003 to 2007, he worked as a senior researcher at the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich. In 2007 and 2008, he was an assistant professor at the Free University Berlin, and he received his habilitation from the LMU in 2008. In 2009, he obtained the chair of Interactive Media and Online Communication from the University of Hohenheim, where he also served as the Director of the Institute of Communication Studies. Since 2012, he has been the chair for online communication at the University of Münster, Germany. Quandt has given lectures at various other universities, and was a guest scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Indiana University, Bloomington.
Thorsten
Thorsten (Thorstein, Torstein, Torsten) is a Scandinavian given name. The Old Norse name was Þórsteinn. It is a compound of the theonym Thor and sten "stone".
The name is one of a group of Old Norse names containing the theonym Thor, besides other such as Þórarin, Þórhall, Þórkell, Þórfinnr, Þórvald, Þórvarðr, Þórolf, most of which, however, do not survive as modern names given with any frequency.
The name is attested in medieval Iceland, e.g. Þorsteinn rauður Ólafsson (circa 850-880), Þōrsteinn Eirīkssonr (late 10th century), and in literature such as Draumr Þorsteins Síðu-Hallssonar.
The Old English equivalent of the Scandinavian name is Thurstan, attested in the 11th century as the name of a medieval archbishop of York (d. 1140), of an abbot of Pershore (1080s) and of an abbot of Glastonbury (1090s). The English surname Thurston is presumably derived from this given name. The English given name Dustin is derived from a surname which in origin may have been derived in turn from the Scandinavian given name.
Adorned Brood
Adorned Brood is a folk black metal band from Neuss, Germany.
History (1993-2006)
After the foundation in 1993, Adorned Brood recorded two demo tapes. They signed a contract to German music label Folter Records. They recorded their first studio album Hiltia in 1996. They recorded a new album, called Wigand, in 1998. Only 1,000 copies of each album were released.
They signed a contract with Moonstorm Records. Their third album, Asgard, was released in 2000. Lead singer Erik Hecht from the band Subway to Sally joined Adorned Brood for their fourth album, Erdenkraft, in 2000.
They toured with Subway to Sally, and played at the music festivals Summer Breeze Open Air, Partysan, Wave Gotik Treffen and Feuertanz Festival.
