MDK may refer to:
MDK is a third-person shooter video game series. MDK is a series of three games (two separate games and a re-make of the second) which place the player in the control of Kurt Hectic, a janitor on Doctor Hawkins's ship, the "Jim Dandy". In each game, the Earth is under attack by "Streamriders", aliens who ride energy streams to the earth's surface in order to take over the planet. The Streamriders' purpose is to strip the earth of its minerals and resources. In the first game, Kurt is the only playable character, but in the second game, you gain the opportunity to play as him, Doctor Hawkins, and his genetically-engineered pet dog, Bones (often called "Max").
The game tells the story of its protagonist, Kurt Hectic, and his attempts to rescue Earth from an alien invasion of gigantic strip mining city-vehicles named 'Minecrawlers' that are not only removing all of Earth's natural resources but are also flattening any people and cities that get in their way. The game combines action with a sense of humour.
Midkine (MK or MDK) also known as neurite growth-promoting factor 2 (NEGF2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MDK gene.
Midkine is a basic heparin-binding growth factor of low molecular weight, and forms a family with pleiotrophin (NEGF1, 46% homologous with MK). It is a nonglycosylated protein, composed of two domains held by disulfide bridges. It is a developmentally important retinoic acid-responsive gene product strongly induced during mid-gestation, hence the name midkine. Restricted mainly to certain tissues in the normal adult, it is strongly induced during oncogenesis, inflammation and tissue repair.
MK is pleiotropic, capable of exerting activities such as cell proliferation, cell migration, angiogenesis and fibrinolysis. A molecular complex containing receptor-type tyrosine phosphatase zeta (PTPζ), low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP1), anaplastic leukemia kinase (ALK) and syndecans is considered to be its receptor.
MK appears to enhance the angiogenic and proliferative activities of cancer cells. The expression of MK (mRNA and protein expression) has been found to be elevated in multiple cancer types, such as neuroblastoma, glioblastoma, Wilms’ tumors, thyroid papillary carcinomas, colorectal, liver, ovary, bladder, breast, lung, esophageal, stomach, and prostate cancers. Serum MK in normal individuals is usually less than 0.5-0.6 ng/ml, whereas patients with these malignancies have much higher levels than this. In some cases, these elevated levels of MK also indicate a poorer prognosis of the disease, such as in neuroblastoma, gliablastoma, and bladder carcinomas. In neuroblastoma, for example, the levels of MK are elevated about three times the level in Stage 4 of the cancer (one of the final stages) than they are in Stage 1.

The game puts the player in control of a thief that must make his way through simple mazes in search of items to steal. Each level is populated by stocky, possibly robotic guards that converge on the player, and which the player must either shoot or evade.

Thief: The Dark Project, also known simply as Thief, is a 1998 first person stealth video game developed by Looking Glass Studios and published by Eidos Interactive. Set in a medieval steampunk metropolis called the City, the game follows Garrett, a master thief trained by a secret society. An expanded edition of the game, Thief Gold, was released in 1999.
Thief was the first PC stealth game to use light and sound as game mechanics. Its use of first-person perspective for non-confrontational gameplay challenged the first-person shooter market, which led the developers to call it a "first-person sneaker". The game combines complex artificial intelligence with simulation systems to allow for emergent gameplay. Thief's influence has been traced to later stealth titles such as Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Hitman.
The game received critical acclaim and has been placed on numerous hall-of-fame lists. With sales of half a million units by the year 2000, it is Looking Glass' most commercially successful game. Thief was followed by a series of three sequels: Thief II: The Metal Age (2000), Thief: Deadly Shadows (2004) and the reboot Thief (2014). Looking Glass closed after Thief II's release, and so the latter two games were developed by Ion Storm and Eidos Montreal, respectively.
