The Witcher

The Witcher (Polish: Wiedźmin, Polish pronunciation: [ˈvʲɛd͡ʑmʲin]), by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, is a fantasy series of short stories and novels about the witcher Geralt of Rivia. In Sapkowski's books, "Witchers" are monster hunters who (with training and body modification) develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly monsters. The books have been adapted into a film and television, video-game and graphic novel series, and the series of novels is known as the Witcher Saga. The short stories and novels have been translated into several languages, including English.

Books

The Witcher short stories were first published in Fantastyka, a Polish science-fiction and fantasy magazine, beginning in the mid-1980s. The first short story, "Wiedźmin" ("The Witcher") (1986), was written for a contest held by the magazine and won third place. The first four stories dealing with the witcher Geralt were originally featured in a 1990 short-story collection entitled Wiedźmin—now out of print—with "Droga, z której się nie wraca" ("The Road With No Return"), which is set in the world before the Witcher stories.

The Hexer (TV series)

Wiedźmin (The Hexer or The Witcher in English) is a 2002 fantasy television series. 13 episodes were made.

The story is based on the stories of The Witcher (The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny), by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

The Witcher (Polish: Wiedźmin [ˈvʲjɛ̇ʥ̑mʲĩn]) is an action role-playing hack and slash video game developed by CD Projekt RED and published by Atari. The game is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.The Witcher takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of Geralt, one of a few remaining Witchers – traveling monster hunters for hire who have unnatural powers. The game's system of "moral choices" as part of the storyline was noted for its time-delayed consequences and lack of black-and-white morality.

The game utilizes BioWare's proprietary Aurora Engine. A console version using an entirely new engine and combat system, titled The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, was to be released in Autumn 2009 but was suspended due to payment problems with the console developers, Widescreen Games. On 18 September 2009, CD Projekt RED officially confirmed that they began working on a sequel, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which was released on 17 May 2011 for the PC and on 17 April 2012, for Xbox 360. The third game of the series, titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was released on 19 May 2015.
