"The Turning Wheel" is an 8,400 word science fiction novelette by Philip K. Dick. It was published in Science Fiction Stories No. 2, 1954.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future where global civilization is governed by a hierarchical, religious society centered on belief in karmic based reincarnation metaphorically viewed as moving forward or backward on a turning wheel.
The society presented is class driven, apparently with Caucasians ("Caucs") at the bottom, and Asians and Native Americans at the top. Above all is the god/messiah, the Bard "Elron Hu" (that is to say, "Elron Hu, Bard"), whose spiritual plan involves one becoming "clear" - an obvious jab at L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics, the self-help book that had been released a few years before.
This was the second of two digest size issues published by Columbia Publishing under this title to test the market for magazines in digest size. Confusingly, both Science Fiction Stories No. 2, 1954 and Science Fiction Quarterly, August 1954 were copyrighted by the publisher as "Science fiction quarterly, Aug. 1954" under Registration Number B00000473931.
Turning is a synonym for rotating.
Turning, a turning, or the turning may refer to:
The Turning is a 1992 American drama film directed by L.A. Puopolo, based on a play by Chris Ceraso.
It is the first onscreen appearance of actress Gillian Anderson. She and Raymond J. Barry would both go on to appear in The X-Files, though they would not share any scenes together.
Filmed entirely on location in Pocahontas, Virginia, the film is adapted from the stage play Home Fires Burning.
After four years, Cliff Harnish returns to his hometown of Pocahontas, Virginia with hopes of putting a stop to his parents' divorce.
The film was bought by British film distributor David Lewis in 1996 and his firm Unique Films released it on video nationwide. The film contains steamy sex scenes and was filmed when Anderson was still a 19 year old student in drama school. Anderson hired lawyers to help stop the release. The British tabloid press which described it as a "B movie", reported that she attempted to buy it back for "large sums of money" without success. They reported the scenes as "semi-topless". Anderson's partner in the scenes, actor Michael Dolan, reported that the scene was shot at 4 am after a long day and that they were both exhausted. In spite of her embarrassment about the film, Anderson had a clause in her contract stating that her breasts could not be exposed. In spite of all the hoopla, the Orange County Register described the scene as "fleeting" and that the film "deserves better than to serve as a salacious footnote to a television show".
Dig Out Your Soul is the seventh and final studio album by the English rock band Oasis, released on 6 October 2008 by Big Brother Records. It was recorded between August and December 2007 at Abbey Road Studios, and January and March 2008 at The Village Recorder. The first single, "The Shock of the Lightning", was released shortly before the release of the album, on 29 September 2008. In promotion of the album, the band embarked on a world tour, debuting in Seattle, Washington at the WaMu Theater, and continuing for eighteen months. In 2009, the tour concluded (due to Noel Gallagher quitting the band) with major dates at some of the UK's biggest stadiums, notably the new Wembley Stadium, Sunderland's Stadium of Light and Edinburgh's Murrayfield as well as Ireland's Slane Castle. They also performed three hometown shows at Manchester's Heaton Park.
A January 2007 interview for NME, Noel Gallagher gave new details on his vision for the album: "All the tunes I've written recently have been on the kind of acoustic side, you know? But for the next record I really fancy doing a record where we just completely throw the kitchen sink at it," he explained. "We haven't done that since Be Here Now. I'd like to get, like, a 100-piece orchestra and choirs and all that stuff. I think since Standing on the Shoulder of Giants we've been trying to prove a point of just bass, drums, guitar and vocals and nothing fancy. But I kind of like fancy! I'd like to make an absolutely fucking colossal album. You know? Like literally two orchestras, stuff like that."

If I took a rollin' wheel
And rolled it ten times round
Would it travel far from here
Or would it just go round
Round and Round
As a young boy I helped the old man
Workin' in the fields
And everyday, we hauled the hay
To the rollin' of the wheels
'Til one day the tractor laid
The old man down to the ground
The tractor pitched him into a ditch and
Left a dusty sound
Of the wheel that kept spinnin' round
The wheel that kept spinnin' round
CHORUS:
Rollin' wheel, rollin' on
Takin' us all on our way
Rollin' wheel, rollin' on
Takin back all that they gave
Takin' us all on our way
Takin' back all that they save
I've never knew my father well
The war called him too soon
Said he was an officer
Saw some pictures in my room
The letter said he was reported dead
Near the front lines he'd been found
A mine blew his jeep into a twisted heep
And I still hear the sound
Of the wheel that kept spinnin' round.
Rollin' wheel, rollin' on
Takin' us all on our way
Rollin' wheels, rollin' on
Takin' us all to the grave
Takin' back all that they save
Takin' us all on our way
My brother chased a dream of wheels
His whole life geared for the race
As soon as he could, he drove off for good
His whole life was short, quick, and straight
He only lived to spin those wheels
And make that move over ground
'Til the steering failed and he crashed the rail
And he laid there still for the sounds
Of the wheel that kept spinning round.
Rollin' wheel, they're rollin' on
Takin' us all on our way
The rollin' wheels, rollin' on
Takin' back all that they gave
Takin' us all on our way
Takin' back all that they say
As for me, my life's too short
The wheel has carried my far
Around this world 100 times
By bus, truck, train, bike , or car (???)
And just like the rest I roll on to my death
On a country road far from town
I stare by the wheel just as sure as I feel
That there won't be but one sound
That's the wheel that keeps spinning round
Yeah the wheel that keeps spinning round
Rollin wheels, rollin' on
Takin us all on our way
The rollin' wheels, rollin' on
Takin' back all that they say
Takin us all on our way
Takin' us all on our way
The rollin' wheels, yeah rollin' on
Takin' back all that they gave
