American West Coast rapper Eazy-E, former member of rap group N.W.A, signed Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to Ruthless Records in late 1993, when Bone Thugs debuted with their EP Creepin on ah Come Up. The EP included their breakout hit single "Thuggish Ruggish Bone".

A tribute to then-recently deceased Eazy-E, titled "Tha Crossroads", won a Grammy award in 1997. The Art of War, the group's third album, was also released in 1997. Bone Thugs is the only group that has worked with all four deceased artists 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Eazy-E and Big Pun while they were still alive. The editors of About.com ranked them #12 on their list of the "25 Best Rap Groups of All Time", and MTV called them "the most melodic hip-hop group of all time".

    The Takeover

    by: Honor Society

Last night I was dreamin' about us
We were sittin' down by the lake
We were close I had my arms around you
Out of the corner of my eye your hair color changed
You pulled me in we started kissin'
But it felt much different felt like I was sinnin'
I realized it wasn't you but the scariest part
Was deep down in my heart
I didn't want to wake up
    My hearts in a battle
I'm not sure I can win
I'm losing control of my love
    I should've been a stronger man
    Should've been your soldier
But I chose to wave my white flag
    And let her takeover now
    I should've protected our love (x4)
It happened about a month ago
I was at a coffee shop saw this cutie there
    She was reading a magazine
Out of the corner of my eye saw her look at me
    We started talking so innocently
She asked if I was single then I felt a little guilty
    Right then you called
But I hit ignore, never did that before
    I didn't wanna pick up
    My hearts in a battle
I'm not sure I can win
I'm losing control of my love
I never planned to have an interest in someone else
    (I only think of you)
you're the girl that gave me something I never felt
    (I tried to stay true)
I'm fightin to keep you first in my mind, I don't wanna lose you
