The Starting Line

The Starting Line is an American pop-punk band based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that formed in 1999.

Formation and history (1999-2009)

In 1999, the band that would become The Starting Line was initiated in Churchville, Pennsylvania via an e-mail from guitarist Matt Watts to vocalist/bassist Kenny Vasoli. It asked if the then fourteen-year-old Vasoli, who was at that time in a band called Smash Adams, was interested in "Jamming and shit", as the message title read. Only a few weeks later, Vasoli found himself rehearsing with his future band-mates Watts, guitarist Mike Golla and drummer Tom Gryskewicz. That year, Smash Adams released a tape, Batteries Not Included. It had 7 songs, of which only 4 were mastered. One song from that tape was incorporated into another bands work, 5 Days Ahead. They used a Smash Adams song, Kathleen, in an intro that was set inside of a car with two people talking. It was playing faintly in the background. Soon, the band started touring under the name Sunday Drive, selling out home-made merchandise and a self-recorded demo cassette titled Four Songs. Their first official release was a three-way split with The Jimmy Tuesday Band and The Commercials contributing three songs each, released on KickStart Audio in 2000.

Strangeland (album)

Strangeland is the fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Keane, released in May 2012 through Island Records. It is their first full-length album since Perfect Symmetry (2008), as well as the first to feature bassist Jesse Quin as an official member.

Two singles were released preceding the album's release: "Silenced by the Night" and "Disconnected". The former was released internationally on 13 March 2012, while the latter was released on 27 April 2012. The video for "Disconnected" won Best Video at the Q Awards on 22 October 2012. Upon its release, the album received generally average reviews from music critics. The album became their fifth consecutive number-one album on the UK Albums Chart.

Background

"It's a very emotional album. The title track is about setting off in a certain path in life and thinking it's going to go one way, but finding out life's taken a detour. Pretty much every song on the album is about that. (But) it's a more hopeful record than it might sound!"

Drive (TV series)

Drive is an American action drama television series created by Tim Minear and Ben Queen, produced by Minear, Queen, and Greg Yaitanes, and starring Nathan Fillion. Four episodes aired on the Fox Network in April 2007. Two unaired episodes were later released directly to digital distribution.

The series is set against the backdrop of an illegal cross-country automobile road race, focusing on the willing and unwilling competitors and, as the plot develops, the unseen puppet masters who sponsor the race. Minear has described the show's thematic tone by saying "a secret, illegal, underground road race can be anything from Cannonball Run to The Game to North by Northwest to Magnolia-on-wheels. Ours is all those things."

Firefly and Serenity star Nathan Fillion, a longtime friend of series creator Tim Minear, plays the lead role of Alex Tully. Ivan Sergei played Tully in the unaired pilot.

Drive was the first TV show in history which had a live Twitter session during an episode. The account @foxdrive still exists.

The Starting Line

This town was a lovers stage
But now you can't recognise
The streetlights that are daggers to your eyes
You can't find your bearings
Your slipping into the ground
The scene has no colour and no sound.
You still believe in me
After the things I've done
You fear for what we have become
The ground is uneven
You stumble from day to day
You tread where it's easy
Although your feet are like lead
And you gotta get underway
Drag your heart up to the starting line
Forget the ghosts that make you old before your time
It's too easy to get left behind
I know youve been kicked around
But tie up your thoughts and lay them down on me.
Each heart is a paper kite blown around by the breeze
Love wont rest till it brings you to your knees
Some find it easy, some will never even know
You think youve done your journey,
Then you stumble and find that there's such a long way to go
Drag your heart up to the starting line
Forget the ghosts that make you old before your time
It's too easy to get left behind
I know youve been kicked around
You wanna be lost but now your found
Lets take the back way into town
Drink to the bad times
Lay them down on me
Girl, I still believe in you
Your too good to fall so low
Were gonna find a better life I know
Things will be clearer
As soon as we make a start
Well be that much nearer
Were too old to just stand here waiting to break apart
Drag your heart up to the starting line
Forget the ghosts that make you old before your time
It's too easy to get left behind
I know youve been kicked around
But tie up your thoughts and lay them down on me.
