The Rubberband Man

"The Rubberband Man" is a song recorded by the American vocal group The Spinners (known as "The Detroit Spinners" in the UK).

The song, written by producer Thom Bell and singer-songwriter Linda Creed, was about Bell's son, who was being teased by his classmates for being overweight. Intended to improve his son's self-image, the song eventually evolved from being about "The Fat Man" to "The Rubberband Man".

The last major hit by the Spinners to feature Philippé Wynne on lead vocals, "The Rubberband Man" spent three weeks at number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and topped the U.S. R&B chart at the end of 1976. It was also a top-20 hit in the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 16 in October 1976.

Arrangement and structure

With the opening lyrics, "Hand me down my walking cane, hand me down my hat!", the song recalls the tradition of the one-man band, the days of traveling minstrel shows and such Bay Area musicians as Jesse Fuller.

The arrangement opens with rhythmic clavinet and percussion, followed by a Philly string arrangement provided by the Mother Father Sister Brother musicians. There are brief bursts of brass section and piano. Singer Wynne's delivery is "singularly expressive" and the bridge and chorus provide for a classic call and response routine by supporting vocalists Bobbie Smith (tenor), Henry Fambrough (baritone), Billy Henderson (tenor/baritone) and Pervis Jackson (bass). The song also features the bass playing of Motown Legend Bob "Funk Brother" Babbitt.

Rubber Band Man

"Rubber Band Man" is a song by American hip hop recording artist T.I., released December 30, 2003 as the third single from his second studio album Trap Muzik (2003). Production from David Banner was noted by music reviewers, particularly the ascending organ riff that has been described as 'hypnotic' and 'pure halftime show'. Upon release, it charted reasonably well, peaking at number 30 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song is included in the hits collections Totally Hits 2004,Crunk Hits Volume 1, and Hip Hop Hits Volume 9. It was listed at number 34, on Complex Magazine's "Best Atlanta Rap Songs of all Time" and number 61, on their "Best Songs of the Decade."

Background

T.I. says the song's title is a reference to his habit of wearing rubber bands around his wrist, a habit that dates back to when he was a drug dealer. The rubber bands are used to hold big wads of money together because they won't fit into a normal pocket wallet. Publicity efforts for the single were derailed by T.I.'s arrest in August 2003. At the end of the song, there is a skit advertisement for "buster card" and the number is reversed, so if you play that skit in reverse, the number is 404-349-5000 which is the number for a Subway Restaurant in Atlanta, GA.

Rubber band

A rubber band, also known as a binder, elastic band, lackey band, laggy band, gum band, or elastic, is usually ring shaped and commonly used to hold multiple objects together. The rubber band was patented in England on March 17, 1845 by Stephen Perry.Mesoamericans (such as Aztecs and Mayans) were using natural rubber products by 1600 B.C.; they mixed latex with other materials to get desired properties. In 1839, Charles Goodyear developed vulcanization which is used to make rubber today. Most rubber bands are manufactured out of natural rubber. Rubber bands come in a variety of sizes.

Manufacturing

Rubber bands are made by extruding the rubber into a long tube to provide its general shape, putting the tubes on mandrels, curing the rubber with heat, and then slicing it across the width of the tube into little bands. This causes the tube to split into multiple sections, creating a rubber band.

Material

While other rubber products may use synthetic rubber, most rubber bands are primarily manufactured using natural rubber because of its superior elasticity.

Rubberband (album)

Rubberband is the debut album by American country music artist Charlie Worsham. It was released on August 20, 2013 via Warner Bros. Records. Worsham co-wrote all eleven tracks and co-produced the album with Ryan Tyndell.Vince Gill and Marty Stuart appear on the song "Tools of the Trade".

Critical reception

The album received positive reviews from critics. Billy Dukes of Taste of Country gave it 4.5 stars out of 5, saying that "From top to bottom, Worsham never shows the same style or tone twice in a row, making each cut feel original and exciting. " It received an "A" from Tammy Raugsa of Country Weekly, whose review compared the music to Diamond Rio and New Grass Revival, also praising the lyrics and Worsham's voice, which she compared to Vince Gill. She concluded her review with, "It seems unfair to isolate any one track over another since all stand on their own. They’re laudable as much for their unique nature as they are for their honest-to-goodness goodness." Jeffrey B. Remz of Country Standard Time compared Worsham to Keith Urban, but thought that the softer songs showed more of an original sound. He added that "It may not be particularly new, but it is very well done."

RubberBand

RubberBand is a Cantopop band formed in Hong Kong in 2004. They signed with Gold Typhoon label in 2006. They started as a 5-man band but after keyboard player Ngai Sum's departure in October 2010, comprise 4 members. In 2013 they switched to ASIA LP, signing with them in February that year.

History

In 2006, the band took its music tapes to record companies. Mark Lui took notice of their music and signed them to Gold Typhoon.
