The Renegade (poem)

"The Renegade" is a poem by David Diop which blackguards those Africans who have espoused European customs at the expense of their African roots. Critics have noted, sometimes pointedly, that Diop himself spent most of his life outside Africa.

The Renegade (short story)

"The Renegade" (Fr. Le renégat) is a short story written in 1957. It is the second short story published in the volume Exile and the Kingdom by Albert Camus.

Plot summary

"The Renegade" is one of the most obscure and confusing of the short stories published in Exile and the Kingdom. It is presumed to be an allegory. The story begins with the narrator, who we are told has somehow lost his tongue, waiting in the desert with a rifle. Much of what the narrator says at the beginning of the story is not explained until much later.

After the opening pages in the desert which are set in the narrator's present, the narrator recounts events from his past which begin to explain his present nature and situation. The narrator, a French Catholic from the Protestant Massif Central region, left his home to work as a Christian missionary to the Tribes in the closed city of Taghaza, Mali. His mentor warns him that he is not yet ready for such a task but in his self-confessed 'pig-headedness' he decides to go anyway. Upon arrival, his guide turns on him and robs him leaving him in the desert.

Richard "Rick" Wilson (October 16, 1965 – February 23, 1999) was an American professional wrestler. He was best known for his tenure in World Championship Wrestling under the ring name The Renegade, where he was a one-time WCW World Television Champion.

Professional wrestling career

Early career (1992–1995)

Wilson trained to wrestle under Killer Kowalski and debuted in 1992 under the ring name "Rio, Lord of the Jungle". During his early career, Wilson wrestled for the Japanese promotion WAR.

World Championship Wrestling (1995–1998)

In 1995, Wilson was signed by World Championship Wrestling. Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage were involved in the main event feud with Ric Flair and Vader. Leading up to Uncensored, in which Hogan was scheduled to face Vader in a strap match in the main event, Hogan began hyping an "Ultimate Surprise" and showed a silhouette of a man with long hair and tassels tied to his arms, implying that the Ultimate Warrior was the man in question. On March 19 at Uncensored, Wilson, under the ring name The Renegade, was billed by Hogan as "the man that's gonna bring Hulkamania into the 21st Century."
