Quick Restaurants NV/Quick Restaurants SA was an original Belgian chain of hamburger fast food restaurants headquartered in Berchem, Antwerp, Belgium. Founded in 1971 by Belgian Baron François Vaxelaire, it is Europe's first and leading hamburger restaurant chain.
In recent years, its worldwide expansion has accelerated. Quick is similar in theme to McDonald's and Burger King. In 2007, it was taken over by the French government's investment holding company, CDC, which controls 94% of the shares as of November 2013 and was purchased by Burger King in February 2016.
The chain was first established in 1971 with two restaurants, by the Belgian Baron Vaxelaire (Chairman of GIB Group) one in Schoten, on the outskirts of Antwerp and another in Waterloo just south of Brussels. The first Quick opened in France was in Aix-en-Provence on July 19, 1980. By December 31, 2010, it operated over 400 restaurants in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the French overseas departments or territories of Réunion, New Caledonia Guadeloupe and Martinique. 72% of these restaurants are operated as franchises.
Quick was a German-language weekly illustrated news magazine published from 25 April 1948 to 27 August 1992 in Hamburg, Germany.
Quick was the first magazine published in Germany after the Second World War. The magazine was first published on 25 April 1948 and had an initial print run of 110,000 copies. It had its headquarters in Hamburg. The magazine was launched by the Bauer Media Group and was published on a weekly basis.
Traudl Junge, Adolf Hitler's secretary, for many years worked as a secretary for the chief editorial staff of Quick.
At one time one of the most important magazines in its class, it reached a peak circulation of 1.7 million copies in 1960. As attitudes towards sex changed, the magazine tried to adapt, including more coverage of sex and crime in the 1980s. This was not a success; advertising revenue fell by 50% and circulation to 700,000 between 1990 and the closing of the magazine in 1992. It ceased publication on 27 August 1992.
Simplified Cangjie, known as Quick (Chinese: 簡易) or Sucheng (Chinese: 速成) is a stroke based keyboard input method based on the Cangjie IME (倉頡輸入法) but simplfied with select lists.
Unlike full Cangjie, the user enters only the first and last keystrokes used in the Cangjie system, and then chooses the desired character from a list of candidate Chinese characters that pops up. This method is popular in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Simplified Cangjie is one of the few input methods which has an IME pre-installed on Chinese-capable personal computers.
Although described as having an easier learning curve with less errors, Simplified Cangjie users have slower typing speed compared to full Cangjie. The user must choose from a list of candidate characters, which can be compared to "hunt and peck" vs. ordinary touch typing. Because Simplified Cangjie does not promote the full sequence of keystrokes of standard Cangjie, it could leave simplified Cangjie users without knowledge of how to code a character without the disambiguation lists.
A private is a soldier of the lowest military rank (equivalent to NATO Rank Grades OR-1 to OR-3 depending on the force served in).
In modern military parlance, 'private' is shortened to 'Pte' in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries and to 'Pvt.' in the United States.
The term derives from the medieval term "private soldiers" (a term still used in the British Army), denoting individuals who were either hired, conscripted, or mustered into service by a feudal nobleman commanding a battle group of an army. The usage of "private" dates from the 18th century.
In the Israel Defense Forces, טוראי Turai ("private") refers to the lowest enlisted rank. After 7–10 months of service (7 for combatants, 8 for combat support and 10 for non-combatants) soldiers are promoted from private to corporal (rav-turai or rabat), if they performed their duties appropriately during this time. Soldiers who take a commander's course, are prisoner instructors or practical engineers become corporals earlier. An IDF private wears no uniform insignia and is sometimes described as having a "slick sleeve" for this reason.
In physics and thermodynamics, an equation of state is a relation between state variables. More specifically, an equation of state is a thermodynamic equation describing the state of matter under a given set of physical conditions. It is a constitutive equation which provides a mathematical relationship between two or more state functions associated with the matter, such as its temperature, pressure, volume, or internal energy. Equations of state are useful in describing the properties of fluids, mixtures of fluids, solids, and even the interior of stars.
The most prominent use of an equation of state is to correlate densities of gases and liquids to temperatures and pressures. One of the simplest equations of state for this purpose is the ideal gas law, which is roughly accurate for weakly polar gases at low pressures and moderate temperatures. However, this equation becomes increasingly inaccurate at higher pressures and lower temperatures, and fails to predict condensation from a gas to a liquid. Therefore, a number of more accurate equations of state have been developed for gases and liquids. At present, there is no single equation of state that accurately predicts the properties of all substances under all conditions.
PVT is an experimental rock band based in London and Sydney and are currently signed to Brooklyn imprint Felte and have released records on Warp Records in the past. Band members are Richard Pike, Laurence Pike and Dave Miller. Brothers Richard and Laurence grew up in Sydney, later meeting Dave Miller who originally comes from Perth, Australia. The band have released four albums, three EPs and a number of singles. They have toured internationally.
In 1999, PVT was formed as Pivot in Sydney by brothers Richard Pike and Laurence Pike. The band spent the subsequent four years developing their sound and working on their debut album, with guitarist Richard Pike producing. They released their debut album, Make Me Love You, in August 2005 on Sensory Records. It was nominated for a J Award by national youth broadcaster Triple J. The band added Perth (and now London) electronica artist Dave Miller in late 2005, omitting the old members from their line up and becoming a three piece.
i had never seen the snow
never sailed upon the seas
i was busy making plans
to build a fortress in the trees
i'd ride my bicycle
down the lane and back again
taking me to the birds
and my imaginary friends
and i'd want to run away
go as far as i could see
but i'd always turn around
to find familiarity
right where it should be
i'll be gone running on the mile
i am moving on
i do not know where i will go
but i'm beckoned by the sky
in the river down below
i've only got one pair of shoes
comforting these weary feet
cos a man who owns too much
is like a song without a beat
left feeling incomplete
