The Power (Snap! song)

"The Power" is a song by the German music group Snap! from their album World Power. It was released in January 1990 and reached number one in the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as well as on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and Hot Rap charts. On the Billboard Hot 100, "The Power" managed to reach number two for one week, behind "Vision of Love" by Mariah Carey. It is particularly known for its hook "I've got the power!"

Background

Written by Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti (under the pseudonyms Benito Benites and John "Virgo" Garrett III) and produced by Snap!, it was the group's third single. Featuring a rap by Turbo B and vocals by Penny Ford (lip-synced in the music video by Jackie Harris), the single became a massive international hit.

The song opens with the somewhat enigmatic line in Russian: "Американская фирма Transceptor Technology приступила к производству компьютеров «Персональный спутник»" (meaning "The American company Transceptor Technology has started production of the 'Personal Companion' computer"). "Personal Companion" was a computer-like device for the blind and visually impaired. Released in 1990, it was controlled by voice and could, among other functions, automatically download articles from USA Today by a built-in modem. It was made by Transceptor Technologies of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

"The Power" is the 22nd episode of the second season of the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

Overview

Deon discovers he has the godly power to order people to do his bidding. Hercules helps him to use his gift wisely.

Plot synopsis

Deon and his girlfriend, Cyrene, are walking along the beach when they are ambushed by some bandits. Hercules is also walking along the beach and as one of the bandits goes after the couple, some of the others attack Hercules. As Deon and Cyrene flee from their pursuer, Hercules beats his attackers and comes to their rescue. As Hercules arrives he sees Deon tell the bandits not to kill him and to leave, Hercules looks on amazed as they follow his orders.

When Deon, Hercules and Cyrene get back to the village, Deon tells his father and uncle about what happened, the other villagers do not believe that a fisherman could order bandits to run away, one man asks Deon to prove it, by making him dance like a chicken. Deon tells him to do it and he begins clucking and flapping his arms like wings. As the man clucks, Salmoneus arrives and joins in with the clucking.

The Power (album)

The Power is the debut album by Australian pop singer Vanessa Amorosi, released on 3 April 2000 on CBK Produktions and Transistor Music Australia, and the first such debut by an Australian female to reach number one on the national album chart. It remained for 62 weeks in the ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart after its release. An international version was released with different album art and track listing.

3D&T

3D&T, formerly known as "Defensores de Tóquio", is a Brazilian tabletop role-playing game, created by Marcelo Cassaro. It is designed to be a very simple, beginner-friendly game system.

History

Origin

The name of the game is a pun on the famous Dungeons & Dragons or "D&D"; the original version of the game – Defensores de Tóquio ("Defenders of Tokyo") – was a satire of tokusatsu, fighting games, and anime series. It was created by Marcelo Cassaro and published by Trama Editorial, later known as Editora Talismã. It spawned "AD&T" - as implied by the name, an "advanced" edition (and a pun on AD&D). Finally, "3D&T" means "Defenders of Tokyo 3rd edition". The major change on the 3rd edition was that it was turned into a generic game, dropping its satire roots. It was a huge success, becoming as popular as Dungeons & Dragons and Vampire: The Masquerade among Brazilian roleplayers.

An even simpler version, "3D&T Fastplay", was made freely available online.

A revision, "3D&T Manual Revisado, Ampliado e Turbinado", was released in 2003.

Design and Technology

Design and technology (D&T) is a curricula designed to produce literacy in design and related technologies. It is offered as a school subject at all levels of secondary school in the United Kingdom. In some countries such as England it is a part of the National Curriculum. It is offered in many countries around the world such as Malaysia, Brunei, Bermuda, Singapore, India, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Malta, Hong Kong, Jordan and Botswana. Many international schools have courses in design and technology. As a school subject it involves students in designing in a practical context with a focus on, for example, food, textiles, resistant materials or digital media. It is also a university course in many countries, including Australia, Canada, the USA, Singapore, South Africa, Netherlands and New Zealand, both for the preparation of teachers and for general education in areas such as industrial design.
