The Naked Sun

The Naked Sun is an English language science fiction novel, the second in Isaac Asimov's Robot series. Like its famous predecessor, The Caves of Steel, this is a whodunit story. The book was first published in 1957 after being serialized in Astounding Science Fiction and Fact between October and December 1956.

Plot

The story arises from the murder of Rikaine Delmarre, a prominent "fetologist" (fetal scientist, responsible for the operation of the planetary birthing center reminiscent of those described in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World) of Solaria, a planet politically hostile to Earth, whose death Elijah Baley is called to investigate, at the request of the Solarian government. He is again partnered with the humaniform robot R. Daneel Olivaw, and asked by Earth's government to assess the Solarian society for weaknesses.

The book focuses on the unusual traditions and culture of Solarian society: the planet has a rigidly controlled population of twenty thousand, and robots outnumber humans ten thousand to one, whereas people are strictly taught from birth to despise personal contact, and live on huge estates, either alone or with their spouse only. Communication is done via holographic telepresence (called viewing, as opposed to in-person seeing).

So Divided is an album by ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead released on November 14, 2006. It saw the band continuing to expand its sound, along the lines of its predecessor Worlds Apart.

The lead single from the album was the track "Wasted State of Mind", though no music video was made for it. A video was, however, created for the song "Naked Sun," but with no input whatsoever from the band.

The album so far has a score of 68 out of 100 from Metacritic based on "generally favorable reviews".musicOMH gave the album all five stars and stated, "Trail of Dead appear to have dropped the noise, and bought out the tunes."NME gave it a score of eight out of ten and said that TOD "do propulsive pop-rock better than anyone."Alternative Press gave it four stars out of five and said, "It's clear that the Trail Of Dead we once knew no longer exists."Hartford Courant gave it a favorable review and said it was "Less conceptual and experimental than its predecessor" and "a moody album, loaded with dark imagery and moments of torturous self-doubt."The Phoenix gave it three stars out of four and said it " depends less on the band’s gear-smashing antics than on their sense of tunecraft, which isn’t as highly developed."The A.V. Club gave it a B and said that the album "rushes in the opposite direction, moving lyrically toward more recognizable rock themes and musically toward the center."

The Naked (band)

The Naked was a Danish indie-rock band that existed from the end of the 1980s and disbanded in 1999. The band started out under the name Naked Lunch, later shortening the name to Naked, and finally to The Naked.

The band was formed by Kasper Andersen (vocal, guitar) and Jacob Als Thomsen (guitar), who met in high school in the mid-eighties. Andersen started out as drummer, but switched to guitar after Thomsen left temporarily to study abroad. At this time guitarist Anders Reuss and bass player Søren Rohde had joined. The band rehearsed with a drum machine until Emil Landgreen joined the band as a drummer in the summer of 1990, coinciding with the return of Thomsen. This line-up started playing regularly on the Copenhagen underground scene from late 1990. At the time of the band's first album, Søren Rohde had left to be replaced by Andreas Koch on bass. During the recording Landgreen left to join Speaker Bite Me and was replaced by Rene Thorny. Astrid Bruun Johansen joined on viola after the second album.
