The Missing Gun

The Missing Gun (Chinese: 寻枪; pinyin: Xún Qiāng) is a 2002 Chinese black comedy film directed by Lu Chuan and starring Jiang Wen, Ning Jing and Wu Yujuan. A directorial debut of Lu, the film premiered during the 9th Beijing College Student Film Festival on 21 April 2002. A pioneer digital screening was subsequently held in Shanghai on 28 April, making The Missing Gun the first film screened in China with digital cinema technology. The film was officially released on 8 May in Beijing.

Adapted from a novelette by Fan Yiping, the film revolves around a small-town policeman who embarks on a search for his missing gun. The film also explores the themes of self-identity and self-respect, as well as addresses a number of pertinent social issues, such as counterfeits, in China.

Plot

War veteran turned small-town policeman Ma Shan (played by Jiang Wen) wakes up after a drunken night at his sister's wedding banquet to find his issued gun missing. After making sure his wife Han Xiaoyun (Wu Yujuan) and third-grader son have not taken it, Ma embarks on a search around the town. He questions his sister and brother-in-law, as well as two ex-comrades in an attempt to connect the dots. He finds out that he was sent home the previous night in a car by Zhou Xiaogang (Shi Liang). Ma knocks on Zhou's door but is greeted by Li Xiaomeng (Ning Jing), Ma's former lover who married and moved to Guangzhou, but has since returned. Li claims that Zhou is not home. Ma leaves but manages to run into Zhou a moment later. After searching Zhou's car, he ascertains that Zhou has not taken his gun either.

The Missing

The Missing is a 2003 American Revisionist Western thriller film directed by Ron Howard, based on Thomas Eidson's 1996 novel The Last Ride. The film is set in 1885 New Mexico Territory and is notable for the authentic use of the Apache language by various actors, some of whom spent long hours studying it. The film was produced by Revolution Studios, Imagine Entertainment, and Daniel Ostroff Productions and distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Plot

In late 19th-century New Mexico, Samuel Jones reappears hoping to reconcile with his adult daughter Maggie Gilkeson. She is unable to forgive him for abandoning the family and leaving her mother to a hard life and early death. This situation changes when Pesh-Chidin and a dozen of his followers (who have left the reservation) pass through the area, ritualistically killing settlers and taking their daughters to be sold into slavery in Mexico. Among those captured is Maggie's eldest daughter, Lilly. Maggie's rancher boyfriend Brake Baldwin was among the settlers killed.

The Missing (TV series)

The Missing is a British drama television series. It premiered on 28 October 2014 on BBC One in the UK, and in the US on Starz on 15 November 2014. The eight-part series was written by Harry and Jack Williams and directed by Tom Shankland. It stars James Nesbitt and Frances O'Connor as Tony and Emily Hughes, the parents of a boy missing in France, and Tchéky Karyo as Julien Baptiste, a retired French detective put in charge of leading the case.

A second series has been commissioned which will feature a new case, thus marking The Missing as an anthology series.

Plot

Series 1

The series focuses on Tony Hughes, who in the summer of 2006, during the FIFA World Cup, travels from England to northern France for a holiday with his wife Emily and 5 year old son Oliver. Not long after entering France, their car breaks down, forcing them to spend the night in the small town of Chalons du Bois. One evening, Tony and Oliver visit a crowded outdoor bar, where the quarterfinals football match is being watched. Tony loses sight of his son, never to find him again.
