The Mine (novel)

The Mine is a 2012 psychological horror novel written by popular Indian blogger Arnab Ray.It is Ray's second book.

Reception

The book met mostly positive reviews.  IBNLive hailed it as a "diabolically smart thriller".  It said "The 282-page book is gripping from start to finish. There are not many authors exploring this genre and Ray may have started a trend".  Daily News and Analysis considered the end as "tour de force of masterful plotting".  Kanchan Gupta of The Pioneer felt "the weaving of stories into each other, the sequential introduction of characters, five experts who are brought in to investigate bizarre events inside the mine and who in turn confront the evil within them, is the work of a good literary craftsman".  The Telegraph made a rather ambivalent review saying the book had "all the elements of a jolly horror jaunt" and it also liked the twist in the end. But felt that the idea of death in closed spaces is rather old, and "many of the incidents are fantastic, requiring a willing suspension of disbelief".

The Mine is a Dubai based contemporary art gallery founded and directed by Sanaz Askari.

    About

Since its opening in November 2013, just as Dubai's win for the EXPO 2020 was announced, the space has been known to break down the city's commercial art scene by showcasing art that is accessible to art enthusiasts across the region. Known to exhibit artists whose works are often obscure and offbeat, ranging from bizarre sculptures to funky installations, The Mine has shaken up the local scene with a vast, ever changing collection of art that was otherwise overshadowed by more commercially successful artists.

Nestled in Al Quoz, an industrial area that has emerged as Dubai's up and coming art district, the gallery continues to exhibit young emerging artists within its raw industrial space.

In addition to solo exhibitions, cultural events are held regularly which have been known to contribute a great deal in supporting Dubai's newly emerging art scene.

The Mine is a warehouse made up of around six thousand square feet with two spacious floors. Every facet of the venue is unobtrusive, with waste items found around the industrial area molded into tables, chairs and reception desks. The space is also used as a platform where industry professionals can network.
