Joe Greenstein

Joseph L. Greenstein (January 2, 1893 – October 8, 1977), better known as "The Mighty Atom", was a 20th-century strongman.

Life and work

Greenstein was born in Suvalk, Poland in 1893. As a child he suffered from respiratory ailments, and at age 14, a team of doctors predicted he would die from tuberculosis. Around that time, he became acquainted with a Russian circus strongman called "Champion Volanko," who took Greenstein under his wing. Greenstein traveled with Volanko and the Issakoff Brothers Circus for eighteen months, learning the strongman's training regimen. After this, he returned to Poland and married his wife, Leah, and began a career as a wrestler. Due in part to rising anti-Semitism in Eastern Europe, he then left for the United States.

Greenstein first went to Galveston, Texas, working as a dockworker and oil field worker. Greenstein wrestled professionally at this time under the alias of "Kid Greenstein." In 1914, a local Texas man who was obsessed with Greenstein's wife shot him between the eyebrows from a distance of 30 feet. Amazingly, Greenstein left the hospital on the same day - the bullet did not enter his skull, but was flattened by the impact. This experience sparked Greenstein's interest in the mental powers associated with strength, and he gradually developed an array of strongman feats.

Marie Corelli

Marie Corelli (/kɔːˈrɛli/; 1 May 1855  21 April 1924) was a British novelist. She enjoyed a period of great literary success from the publication of her first novel in 1886 until World War I. Corelli's novels sold more copies than the combined sales of popular contemporaries, including Arthur Conan Doyle, H. G. Wells, and Rudyard Kipling, although critics often derided her work as "the favourite of the common multitude."

Life and writings

Mary Mackay was born in London to Elizabeth Mills, a servant of the Scottish poet and songwriter Dr. Charles Mackay, the child's biological father. In 1866, eleven-year-old Mary was sent to a Parisian convent to further her education. She returned to Britain four years later in 1870.

Mackay began her career as a musician, adopting the name Marie Corelli for her billing. Eventually she turned to writing and published her first novel, A Romance of Two Worlds, in 1886. In her time, she was the most widely read author of fiction. Her works were collected by Winston Churchill, Randolph Churchill, and members of the British Royal Family, among others.

    The Fear

Do you wake up every day
In a world that seems crazy
A world you love to hate
Are you scared or do you feel pretty safe
Do you think you have nothing
Or do you think you've got it made
    Chorus
You know it feels like your going insane
I've done everything you told me
    To take away the pain
Then you change my medication again
    Its getting harder to tell
    Just who or what's insane
Do your nightmares tear you apart
Do you wake up screaming shouting in the dark
    The demons keep you awake
Does the clock tick more slowly with
    Every breath you take
    Chorus
Does each day seem like the rest
You turn on the morning coz turning offs the best
Do you think that it will never change
Or does mass self delusion medal with your brain
    Chorus
You see I think I know it all
I think I know the way
    You've given me the power
    By making me insane
