Saint Lawrence Boulevard or boulevard Saint-Laurent (its official name, in French) is a major street in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. A commercial artery and cultural heritage site, the street runs north-south through the near-centre of city and is nicknamed The Main.
Beginning at De la Commune Street at the edge of the Saint Lawrence River, it transects the Island of Montreal, passing through the boroughs of Ville-Marie, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie, Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension, and Ahuntsic-Cartierville to Rue Somerville at the edge of Rivière des Prairies – a total length of about 11.25 km.
Saint Laurent Boulevard became a boulevard in 1905 and is often referred to as The Main. It serves as the city's physical division of east and west. Street numbers begin at Saint Lawrence and continue outward, with street names being suffixed by Ouest (West) or Est (East), depending on their orientation.
The Main Point hotel was once a prominent feature in South Melbourne. The current building was built in 1903 but replaced an earlier structure on the same site. Although it is still relatively well-preserved it is obscured by the King's Way overpass.
In 1869 George William Hall applied for a publican’s licence for a house built of wood and plaster and situated at corner of Moray-street and Sandridge-road (now City Road). He was granted a licence and named this establishment the Main Point Hotel.
Ownership of the hotel transferred to Alexander Marks in 1870 and towards the end of 1871 the hotel was renovated. Unfortunately Marks’ original application appears to have been issued improperly. Magistrate Mr. C. Mollison PM refused to renew the license in 1872 meaning Main Point could not legally operate for several months until the issue was resolved. Marks died in November 1873 age 36.
At some point the hotel passed to J.F. Kennedy. On his death in 1899 his executrix ordered the property to be sold. Main Point was advertised as a going concern, having already been leased to a good tenant for five years at £150 per year. Emily and James Rubina are likely to have purchased the hotel at this time.
Another day closed in my mind
Think of the things they say I like
They take my time I loose the sight
Of all the things I really need
Scared of anything I'm not
I'm looking for the answer you've got
I'm not made up of what you
I'll catch the secret
And put it in my head
I won't let them the chance to use me anymore
I Feel confused now
And lost inside me
cause they want me to give up everything I love
And while they're trying to waste my time
Condemning people for every kind
Of difference as a human race
I'm makin' my own theory
Now I've got an answer
Now I Know There's something wrong
You're what you have not what you are
I catch the secret
And put it in my head
And Now I'm Sure that they won't use me anymore
I Felt confused there
And lost inside me
But now I won't give up everything that I love
I won't believe you care at all
And everytime that you'll say goodbye
I'll watch my back from your hate
For every people who fells in disgrace
For every prayer to God that I made
For every time I lost my pride
I catch the secret
And put it in my head
And Now I'm Sure that they won't use me
I Felt confused there
And lost inside me
