The Last Resort (Doctor Who)

The Last Resort is a BBC Books original novel written by Paul Leonard and based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It features the Eighth Doctor, Fitz, Anji and Trix.

Plot

This story begins with Fitz and Anji working for the Good Times Inc. Company. They are working undercover for the Doctor, who is shocked to discover a company that is selling holidays in time.

The climax of the story results in the destruction of billions of universes. The Doctor and Sabbath realise all time travellers must be stopped, to prevent these events from happening again. However, at the end of the book a man reveals he has a time-travel machine and proceeds to begin interfering in time once again.........

The Last Resort is a Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Supermystery novel.

The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew are called in to join a team of juvenile detectives that are guarding Mount Mirage, a ski lodge that houses billionaires, playboys, etc. A talented music artist is pronounced dead in his suite, and the trio suspect foul play. The gang encounter a concerned lodge owner, a rock "legend" producing a music video on the estate, an attractive country singer, and a murderer bent on destroying everyone at any cost.

In another plot twist frank hardy and Nancy Drew find themselves stranded in an abandoned cabin, alone together, they no longer can ignore their attraction to each other, and they kiss, unfortunately once they get rescued, they both feel it was a mistake.

Last Resort (U.S. TV series)

Last Resort is an American military drama television series that aired on ABC from September 27, 2012 to January 24, 2013. The series was created by Shawn Ryan and Karl Gajdusek and produced by Sony Pictures Television. On November 16, 2012, ABC announced that the series would not be picked up for another season and the show finished with its original 13 episodes.

Plot

When the crew of the U.S. Navy Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, the USS Colorado (SSBN-753), pick up a U.S. Navy SEAL team off Pakistan's coast, the Colorado receives an order to launch nuclear ballistic missiles at Pakistan.

Colorado's Commanding Officer, Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher), asks for confirmation of the firing order because the orders were received through a legacy Cold War secondary communication channel, only to be used in the event that Washington, D.C. has already been destroyed. After confirming Washington's continued existence and refusing to fire the missiles until the command is sent through the proper system, Chaplin is relieved of command by the Deputy Secretary of Defense William Curry, and the Colorado's second in command, Lieutenant Commander Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman), is given command instead. When Kendal also questions the orders and asks for confirmation, the vessel is fired upon by the Virginia-class submarine USS Illinois (SSN-786). Two nuclear missile strikes are subsequently made on Pakistan by other U.S. forces.

Last Resort (House)

"Last Resort" is the ninth episode of the fifth season of House and the ninety-fifth episode overall. It aired on November 25, 2008. This episode is an "extended episode" as it runs for an extra seven minutes (excluding ads), taking the total episode's length without ads to 50 minutes.

Plot

A gun-wielding man named Jason (Željko Ivanek) from the waiting room at the Princeton-Plainsboro clinic takes House, Thirteen, a nurse, and several patients from the waiting room hostage in Cuddy's office. The man claims to be sick with a long undiagnosed illness and demands medical attention from the best doctor in the hospital, threatening to kill any hostages necessary along the way. With a room full of already sick patients, House must use them as guinea pigs to assure the hostage-taker that the medications he is administering to him are legitimate.

As Cuddy and the rest of House's team communicate with House over the phone to run tests and offer possible diagnoses, they ponder the possibility that Jason has nothing physically wrong with him and that everyone in Cuddy's office could wind up dead. With one hostage already shot, Thirteen wagers her own already diminished health as she simultaneously receives the experimental treatments the hostage-taker patient is receiving as he wants to make sure they are not sedatives. Her life lies in danger as House's own determination to diagnose the hostage-taker threatens to thwart the SWAT team's plan to put an end to the standoff in the "Last Resort" fire.

Last Resort (song)

"Last Resort" is the debut single from the rock band Papa Roach's second album, Infest. The song was hugely popular and a mainstream success, charting around the world and reaching number 1 on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks, number 57 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.

Music and lyrics

The song is in G major. The guitar riff that appears throughout the song is a replayed sample (interpolation) of the instrumental track "Genghis Khan" by Iron Maiden. The band however have stated that they did not sample the song. Additionally, Kerrang! magazine has remarked on the similarities between the lead guitar lines of 'Last Resort' and Northern Irish trio Therapy?'s song 'Screamager'.

The song "Last Resort" is about suicide. In an interview with Songfacts, Papa Roach member Tobin Esperance spoke about the song and its lyrics, saying:

Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix described the song as a "cry for help". He also said "That song was about one of my best friends, and then 12-13 years later, that song was about me. I found myself in that place, where I was like, "I can't go on this way. I can't do it anymore.""
