Joseph Copeland "Joe" Garland (Aug. 15, 1903, Norfolk, Virginia – April 21, 1977, Teaneck, New Jersey) was an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and arranger, best known for writing "In the Mood".
Garland studied music at Shaw University and the Aeolian Conservatory. He started by playing classical music but joined a jazz band, Graham Jackson's Seminole Syncopators, in 1924, where he first recorded. He had a long run of associations as a sideman on saxophone and clarinet, with Elmer Snowden (1925), Joe Steele, Henri Saparo, Leon Abbey (including a tour of South America), Charlie Skeete and Jelly Roll Morton in the 1920s. The 1930s saw him playing with Bobby Neal (1931) and the Mills Blue Rhythm Band; he was both a performer and an arranger for the Blue Rhythm Band from 1932 to 1936, when Lucky Millinder replaced him. Following this he played with Edgar Hayes (1937), Don Redman (1938), and Louis Armstrong (1939–42). In the 1940s he played with Claude Hopkins and others, and then returned to Armstrong's band from 1945-47. Following this he played with Herbie Fields, Hopkins again, and Earl Hines (1948). In the 1950s, he went into semi-retirement.
The Invasion may refer to:
The Invasion is a 2007 science fiction thriller horror film starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, with additional scenes written by The Wachowskis and directed by James McTeigue.
The Invasion is the fourth film adaptation of the 1955 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney, following Don Siegel's 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Philip Kaufman's 1978 remake of the same name, and Abel Ferrara's 1993 Body Snatchers.
After the space shuttle Patriot crashes on Earth, a fungus-like alien lifeform is discovered on the remaining parts scattered over US territory. Once people come into contact with the organism, they are controlled by it when they enter REM sleep. One of the first people infected is Tucker Kaufman, a CDC director investigating the crash.
Tucker's ex-wife, psychiatrist Carol Bennell, begins to feel something is amiss when people seem to have "changed". Her patient Wendy Lenk describes how her husband "is not her husband", and one of her son's friends acts detached and emotionless. At a neighborhood Halloween party, Carol's son Oliver finds a "skin" on a partier which is initially believed to be costume make-up. Carol speculates that the skin may be an organism connected to reports of a fast-spreading flu. Carol takes the organism to her doctor friend Ben Driscoll to have it checked. Carol attends a friendly dinner meeting between Russian diplomat Ben and Czechoslovakian diplomat Yorish (along with female companion Luddie) and discusses her post-modern feminism views over caviar and champagne. Meanwhile, Tucker uses the CDC to spread the disease further, disguising the spores as flu vaccine.
The Invasion is the partly missing third serial of the sixth season of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in eight weekly parts from 2 November to 21 December 1968. It marks the first appearance of UNIT and, notably, Corporal Benton, later to become a Sergeant. It is the first now-incomplete Doctor Who serial to be released with full-length animated reconstructions of its two missing episodes.
The TARDIS evades a missile fired by a spaceship on the Moon, landing the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe in late twentieth-century England. The visual stabiliser is damaged and renders the TARDIS invisible, so they try to find Professor Edward Travers (of The Abominable Snowmen and The Web of Fear) to seek his assistance. They hitch a lift to London, and the lorry driver talks of International Electromatics, the world's largest electronics manufacturer.
The Doctor discovers that Professor Travers has left for America with his daughter, leaving his London home in the care of Isobel Watkins and her scientist uncle, Professor Watkins, who has mysteriously disappeared while working for the same company, International Electromatics. The Doctor and Jamie go to IE's head office in London, to investigate. When the electronic receptionist refuses them entry, they seek out a back entrance, but are arrested and taken before IE's Managing Director, the sinister Tobias Vaughn, who gives them a cock-and-bull story of Professor Watkins being at a delicate stage of his work and refusing to see anyone. The Doctor is immediately suspicious, noticing that the inhuman Vaughn never blinks once during their meeting.
Creation's groaning, lost their hope and feel they always closed in Lots to
cope with, on the ropes, wish they was in the open This broken world is so
dim, our souls are searching, groping For one with hope to hold us close,
and set goodness in motion I remember growing up in Dallas, I thought me
and my close kin Was more than straight, our folks was great, not broke
that paper flowed in Not boasting man, just saying in my brain I didn't
know then That all went wrong, and it just can't go right like a broke pen
My mind was blind and cloaked in, but then that foolishness departed I saw
this thing's an ocean, and we just tryna swim real far but But can't nobody
float when we ain't got boats or no fins We need a hero to go in, cause our
solutions don't win Education can't fix it, more dough just leads to more
sin Medicine is temporary, government seems so thin With all these weighty
problems, that ain't shrinking they just growing Who's adequate to save us,
how about He knew no sin?
Like a G5 yeah you rushed to rescue me Took a cross in exchange for a crown
to save me You began the work and I know you'll finish And make all things
right when you come back Cause you're my hero, you already saved the day
Cause you're my hero, and I know you're coming back for me
Follow the steps bro, Adam sinned now we all dead so We gotta sentence on
our head like death row, everything is wrecked All creation is a mess bro,
In the fullness of time, in steps the hero no red cloak, He's Jesus No
flashing lights, glitz n glam, and no cameras He came to serve needy folks,
and point them to the answer You see Him healing, feeding folks, and
telling them the standard Our most basic need is to be ransomed by Jesus It
has first place, yeah we separated in the worst ways Even physically peep
how the earth quakes Separated socially, murder and the worst rapes Even
separated from ourselves, we in the worst state It's so major, that's the
reason that we need a Savior Cause the root of needs is separation from
Creator Jesus came humbly to restore us to our maker And later He'll
restore all that He made bruh, He's Jesus
God is not pleased man, it's clear that His standards missed The world is
running rampant with, sin it's an abandonment Man is feeling stranded,
feeling hopeless since his banishment God is angry at the distortion and
the mismanagement Evil is at work, but don't be thinking He can't handle it
He promised He would do away with all of it, dismantle it He's put up with
this damage in His world, but He's promised us That He'll destroy all His
enemies and then He'll walk with us New Heaven, new Earth that's where all
His sheep dwell Cause Jesus succeeded in every part of life that we failed
Died the death we couldn't die, paid our price with 3 nails Began the work
He promised, in the end we all will be well Already beat his enemies and
when His Kingdom's realized All those who oppose Him will see Jesus with
some real eyes Deliverance is offered us, the hero He is urging us
Salvation is exclusive to His people who have turned to trust
I give my gratitude (Jesus). You died to make all things new. My knight in
armour when our world is fallen. Your love's never failing. I find safety
