The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is a body that represents construction management professionals who work within the built environment. The CIOB is a full member of the Construction Industry Council.
The CIOB was established on 6 March 1834 as the Builders Society by a small group (15) of London's master builders "to uphold and promote reputable standards of building through friendly intercourse, the useful exchange of information and greater uniformity and respectability in business". It later became known as the London Master Builders Society.
In 1884 the society was incorporated under the Companies Act as The Institute of Builders, the principal objective being "to promote excellence in the construction of buildings and just and honourable practice in the conduct of business". From 1886, the Institute had offices at 31-32 Bedford Street in London, along with the Central Association of Master Builders of London and the Builders' Accident Insurance Company.
The Institute, also known as The Institute for the Development of Enhanced Perceptual Awareness, is a film and television production/distribution studio founded by Scott Gardenhour and Michael Bay. The company was founded in 2001.

The Institute is a 2013 documentary film directed by Spencer McCall reconstructing the story of the "Jejune Institute", an alternate reality game set in San Francisco, through interviews with the participants and the creators. The game was produced in 2008 by Oakland-based artist Jeff Hull. Over the course of three years, it enrolled more than 10,000 players who, responding to eccentric flyers plastered all over the city, started the game by receiving their "induction" at the fake headquarters of the Institute, located in an office building in San Francisco's Financial District.
