The Inner Circle is a novel written by Brad Meltzer about Beecher White, a young man working in the National Archives. While working in the archives, Beecher and his childhood crush discover a 200-year-old dictionary belonging to George Washington. For some reason, the President keeps the dictionary hidden. Beecher wants to discover why, and the answer leads to murder, conspiracy, and the best kept secret that all U.S. Presidents have shared. According to WorldCat, the book is in 2082 libraries

Plot synopsis

Beecher White works in the National Archives. That means he spends his working days protecting the most important documents of the U.S. government and history. This means he keeps other people's stories, but has never been part of the story. Until now.

One day, Beecher's old childhood crush shows up to ask Beecher for his help hunting down her long lost father. Hoping to impress Clementine, he takes her to a secret vault which the President uses to review highly classified documents. While in the vault, they accidentally stumble about a priceless artifact: a 200-year-old dictionary hidden in a secret desk compartment that once belonged to George Washington. The diary is the spark which ignites an adventure involving Clementine, Beecher and the highest reaches of the national government. A dead body and a trail of mystery lie in the way of Beecher's discovering the truth behind this national treasure. Within the diary is a coded puzzle that hides a dark secret that tracks all the way back to the beginning of the United States. It is a secret that some will kill to keep secret.

The Inner Circle (album)

The Inner Circle is the fifth studio album from the progressive metal band Evergrey, released in 2004. The album is a concept album that deals with the themes of religion, cults and child abuse. According to an interview with frontman Tom S. Englund, the spoken word parts in the album are of an actual person. The last track on the album, When The Walls Go Down samples excerpts from David Wilkerson's speech "A Call To Anguish".

Inner circle (psychoanalysis)

Freud's inner circle or Secret Committee consisted of Sigmund Freud's most trusted psychoanalysts.

It was set up in 1912–13 to ensure the future of psychoanalysis, in response to several analysts breaking with his theories including Alfred Adler in 1911 and Wilhelm Stekel in 1912, and the threatened departure of Carl Jung.

Ernest Jones

Ernest Jones recommended to Freud that he should create a group of loyal psychoanalysts, who would privately discuss any question of departure from "any of the fundamental tenets of psychoanalytical theory" before acting at all. The group initially consisted of five members, Jones, Sándor Ferenczi, Otto Rank, Hanns Sachs, and Karl Abraham, all of whom were given a golden ring: Max Eitingon was added to the Committee in 1919.

Freud and Jones had recognised "a boyish perhaps a romantic element too in this conception". later historians have suggested that it was equally a shrewd, partisan move on Jones's part, helping to further isolate Jung, and thus to ensure his own position as the only Gentile in Freud's inner circle.

Inner Circle (board game)

Inner Circle is a board game for 2–4 players first published in 1981 by Milton Bradley and designed by Virginia Charves and Wayne J. Yee. Inner Circle uses a modular, four-level board design. Each level is hexagonal, with holes (referred to in the game as "survival spots") that allow playing pieces to pass from the current level to the next. Each level is marked with circular spaces with between 1–4 dots inside the circle that determine how many spaces that piece may move. Each successive level is smaller than the previous level (stacked on top of it) and has fewer survival spots. The object of the game is to occupy the lone survival spot at the center of Level 4.

Gameplay

At setup, players take turns placing their playing pieces (pawns, either red, blue, green or yellow) on any of the 18 circles on the outer rim of Level 1. In a four player game, one player (yellow) will therefore have only 4 pawns to the other players' 5. Players place their pawns strategically, endeavoring to maneuver as many of their own pawns into survival spots as possible. Moving a pawn into the large central circle of Levels 1–3 enables the player to immediately move their pawn up to 4 spaces in any direction. When all survival spots are filled, the level is lifted and set aside, allowing the pawns in the survival spots to pass through to Level 2. Pawns not in survival spots are removed from game play. Play continues in this fashion on each successive level, until one player reaches the sole survival spot at the center of Level 4. Level 4 may be lifted, allowing the victorious pawn to stand alone in a winner's circle with a colorful star.

Circle line (London Underground)

The Circle line is a London Underground service in a spiralling shape, running from Hammersmith to Edgware Road and then looping once around central London back to Edgware Road. The railway is below ground in the central section and on the loop east of Paddingdon, and, unlike London's deep-level tube railways, the railway tunnels are just below the surface and of similar size to those on British main lines. Coloured yellow on the tube map, the 17-mile (27 km) line serves 36 stations, including most of London's main line railway termini. Most of the route and all of the stations are shared with the District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. On the Circle line and the Hammersmith & City line combined, over 114 million passenger journeys are made each year. 21 of the 36 stations are below ground.

The first section opened in 1863 when the Metropolitan Railway opened the world's first underground line between Paddington and Farringdon with wooden carriages and steam locomotives. The same year a select committee report recommended an 'inner circle' of railway lines connecting the London railway termini, and the Metropolitan District Railway (commonly known as the District Railway) was formed to build the southern portion of the line. Due to conflict between the two companies it was October 1884 before the inner circle was completed. The line was electrified in 1905, and in July 1933 the two companies were amalgamated into the London Passenger Transport Board. In 1949 the Circle line appeared as a separate line for the first time on the Tube map. In December 2009 the closed loop around the centre of London on the north side of the River Thames was broken at Edgware Road and extended west to become a spiral serving Hammersmith.
