Immortal Man

Immortal Man is a superhero in the DC Comics Universe. He first appeared in National Comics (now DC Comics) flagship science fiction anthology comic Strange Adventures #177 (June 1965). Immortal Man was also a member of The Forgotten Heroes.

Publication history

Immortal Man first appeared in "I lived a Hundred Lives" in Strange Adventures #177 (June 1965), an eight-page story drawn by Jack Sparling. It is not clear who created him. Although not a regular character in the title, Immortal Man then featured in Strange Adventures: #185 in a 16-page tale and Strange Adventures #190 and #198 in 12-page tales. Jack Sparling drew all four adventures, and Dave Wood wrote at least two of them (#185 and #190). Immortal Man also featured on the covers to all four issues.

Following this he appeared with The Forgotten Heroes in Action Comics #552 - #553 (February - March 1984) by Marv Wolfman and Gil Kane and DC Comics Presents #77 - 78(January - February 1985) by Marv Wolfman, Curt Swan and Dave Hunt, a direct link into DC Comics major cross-over event 'Crisis on Infinite Earths. Nothing further was published until an appearance in Animal Man #23 (May 1990), The Flash vol 2 #48 - 50 (March - May 1991), written by William Messner-Loebs, and a final appearance written by Dan Abnett, with art by Andy Lanning, in Resurrection Man 25 - 27 (June - August 1999).

The Immortal (TV series)

The Immortal is an American television series, starring Christopher George as a man whose blood chemistry and resistance to almost all diseases (including old age) makes him both almost immortal and a target of several wealthy men who would basically use him as a personal blood bank, aired on ABC from September 24, 1970 to January 14, 1971. The series is based on a pilot movie of the same name, which aired on September 30, 1969 as an ABC Movie of the Week. The pilot is based on the science fiction novel The Immortals, by James Gunn. The series music was composed by Dominic Frontiere, who is primarily known for scoring the sci-fi anthology series The Outer Limits. Although The Immortal was canceled at midseason, episodes were rerun by ABC in the summer of 1971. It was later rerun on the Armed Forces Network in Europe in the 1980s and on the Sci Fi Channel in the 1990s.

Alonna Gunn

Alonna Gunn (played by Michele Kelly) was the sister of Charles Gunn, and the most important person in his life. The siblings took care of each other while growing up in the "Badlands" (a fictional neighborhood in Los Angeles). Alonna was turned into a vampire in her first appearance ("War Zone"). Gunn eventually found Alonna as a vampire and confronted her, but was ultimately forced to stake her with Angel looking on. Alonna continued to appear in future episodes in Gunn's memory, flashbacks, and dreams. She was also mentioned in many episodes including "That Old Gang of Mine". It was the death of Alonna that made Gunn receptive to Angel's help and also caused him to drift away from his old crew, as he was tired of seeing his friends "picked off one by one".
