The Hum

The Hum is a phenomenon, or collection of phenomena, involving widespread reports of a persistent and invasive low-frequency humming, rumbling, or droning noise not audible to all people. Hums have been widely reported by national media in the UK and the United States. The Hum is sometimes prefixed with the name of a locality where the problem has been particularly publicized: e.g., the "Bristol Hum" or the "Taos Hum". Recent data from English speaking countries suggests that the phenomenon is experienced around the world.

Data from a Taos Hum study suggests that around two percent of the population could detect the Taos Hum. Results from studies from the Kokomo, Indiana Hum suggest that as many as eight percent of the adult population can detect the noise. A 2013 study from Sechelt, BC, Canada, suggested that between two to five percent of the adult population can detect it. Database entries of Hum hearers reveal a spectrum of impacts: from disinterest to life-altering torment. There are unconfirmed reports of two suicides connected to the unrelenting impact of the noise.

The Hum (O'Hooley & Tidow album)

The Hum, the third album by the folk music duo O'Hooley & Tidow, was released on 17 February 2014 and received four-starred reviews in The Guardian and The Irish Times. Inspired by the sights and sounds of the Colne Valley, it has been described as "a collection of songs paying homage to the West Riding village of Golcar", the former industrial village in the West Riding of Yorkshire where Belinda O'Hooley and Heidi Tidow share a home together.

Production

The vocals, piano, electric piano and accordion on the album were recorded in Golcar, Huddersfield, by Belinda O'Hooley, Heidi Tidow and Neil Ferguson of Chumbawamba. The other instruments were arranged, performed and recorded at Tunehouse Studio, London, by Gerry Diver. The album was mixed and produced by Gerry Diver at Tunehouse Studio, London.

Release

The album was released on 17 February 2014 on the No Masters label.Two songs from the album – "Summat's Brewin'" and "Peculiar Brood" – were released as a single on 20 July 2014. A live version of "Summat's Brewin'" was released in August 2015 on their album of the same name.

Hum (film)

Hum (Hinedi: हम, English: We/Us) is a 1991 Hindi action crime film directed by Mukul S. Anand. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth, Govinda, Kimi Katkar, Deepa Sahi, Shilpa Shirodkar, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher and Kader Khan. This was the most successful film for the famous super star, Bachchan in the early '90s before he announced his temporary retirement (for five years) immediately after its release. He also won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for it in 1992. The film ranked second among the top grossers of 1991 at the box office and was declared a blockbuster hit. Mukul S. Anand had considered and discussed a potential scene for this movie with , where Amitabh Bachchan's character would help Govinda get a seat in the Police Academy. Anand discarded the scene, because he did not find it suitable. But felt the scene had the potential to develop into a script for a possible feature film. The discarded scene became the foundation for the 1995 Tamil movie Baashha where character in the film, Manikkam, helps his sister get admission in the medical college she had applied for and it was planned to weave the rest of the film's story around the scene using all the integral key plot elements of Hum.

Hum (Pešter)

Hum (Serbian Cyrillic: Хум) is a mountain on the border of Serbia and Montenegro, between towns of Sjenica and Rožaje, on the eastern edge of Pešter plateau. Its highest peak Krstača has an elevation of 1,756 meters above sea level.
