The Fear (2015 film)

The Fear (French: La Peur) is a 2015 French drama film directed by Damien Odoul. The film won the 2015 Cinema of France award Prix Jean Vigo, and was selected to be screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

Production

Secretly shot from September 15 through October 24, 2015, on locations in Canada, filming completed and the film entered post-production in late November. The film represents Damien Odoul's seventh feature film.

Plot

Gabriel Dufour (Nino Rocher) is a young conscript in the French army during the first World War. Along with fellow conscripts from his small town, he is sent to the front in 1914. Through the trials, horrors, and tribulations of war, he survives and discovers his own humanity.

The Fear is an EP by Mike Paradinas released in 1999 under his main moniker "µ-Ziq". It only contains two four-and-a-half minute tracks, the title track being from the 1999 album Royal Astronomy.

Modern art

Modern art includes artistic work produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the style and philosophy of the art produced during that era. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. A tendency away from the narrative, which was characteristic for the traditional arts, toward abstraction is characteristic of much modern art. More recent artistic production is often called contemporary art or postmodern art.

Modern art begins with the heritage of painters like Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec all of whom were essential for the development of modern art. At the beginning of the 20th century Henri Matisse and several other young artists including the pre-cubists Georges Braque, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, Jean Metzinger and Maurice de Vlaminck revolutionized the Paris art world with "wild", multi-colored, expressive landscapes and figure paintings that the critics called Fauvism. Henri Matisse's two versions of The Dance signified a key point in his career and in the development of modern painting. It reflected Matisse's incipient fascination with primitive art: the intense warm color of the figures against the cool blue-green background and the rhythmical succession of the dancing nudes convey the feelings of emotional liberation and hedonism.

Modern Art is an album by trumpeter Art Farmer featuring performances recorded in 1958 and originally released on the United Artists label.

Reception

The 1958 Down Beat review gave the album a maximum five stars. The Allmusic review stated: "Modern Art is the prelude recording for Art Farmer prior to his partnership in the Jazztet with Benny Golson, and also foreshadows the classy, tasteful inventiveness that group brought to the modern jazz world two years after this 1958 session... the Farmer-Golson combine proved to be a[n] important pairing beyond their initial partnership, with the seeds of that forest flower heard and enjoyed here".The Penguin Guide to Jazz described it as "one of Farmer's most successful records of the period", praising the contributions of pianist Bill Evans in particular.
