Ministry of Sound started out as a nightclub in London, but has since diversified into a multimedia entertainment business. In addition to the nightclub, it is an independent record label and worldwide events brand with a radio station and other media outlets.

History of the nightclub

Ministry of Sound began as the idea of Justin Berkmann. Inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage, Berkmann set out to create London’s first club devoted to the American house music scenes of 1980s New York, Chicago and Detroit. As opposed to striking a balance between the typical hallmarks of a live music venue, Ministry of Sound was conceived as an arena purely dedicated to sound. Berkmann stated: "My concept for Ministry was purely this: 100% sound system first, lights second, design third (in that order); the reverse of everyone else’s idea."

Berkmann was introduced to James Palumbo, who was working in property finance at the time, by Humphrey Waterhouse to realise the concept. The site, a disused bus garage, was located in Elephant & Castle in Southwark, London. The club opened on 21 September 1991.

The Club (baseball reality show)

The Club is a baseball reality TV show broadcast on the MLB Network. In 2010, its first season, the show focuses on the Chicago White Sox. While many White Sox leaders appear on the show, general manager Kenny Williams and manager Ozzie Guillen appear most frequently.

The Club (1980 film)

The Club is a satirical play by Australian playwright David Williamson. It follows the fortunes of an Australian rules football club over the course of a season, and explores the clashes of individuals from within the club. It was inspired by the backroom dealings and antics of the Victorian Football League's Collingwood Football Club.

The play was first staged by the Melbourne Theatre Company on 24 May 1977 at the Russell Street Theatre. It toured Australia-wide, breaking all previous box office records, and had seasons in Germany, the United States (where it ran under the name Players) and the United Kingdom. It is popular with amateur theatre groups and secondary school students, having been in the senior English syllabi for four Australian states for many years.

In 2007, The Club was re-produced and toured throughout Australia, starring John Wood.

Film

A film version was produced in 1980, written by David Williamson, directed by Bruce Beresford and starring John Howard, Jack Thompson, Graham Kennedy and Frank Wilson. The film was described as a "hilarious, sharply observed slice of life".

The Club (dining club)

The Club or Literary Club was a London dining club founded in February 1764 by the artist Joshua Reynolds and essayist Samuel Johnson.

Description

Initially, the club would meet one evening per week at seven, at the Turk's Head Inn in Gerrard Street, Soho. Later, meetings were reduced to once per fortnight whilst Parliament was in session, and were held at rooms in St James's Street. Though the initial suggestion was Reynolds', it is Dr Johnson whose name is most closely associated with the Club. John Timbs, in his Club Life in London, gives an account of the Club's centennial dinner in 1864, which was celebrated at the Clarendon hotel. Henry Hart Milman, the English historian, was treasurer. The Club's toast, no doubt employing a bit of wishful thinking, was "Esto perpetua", Latin for "Let it be perpetual".This Latin phrase traces its origin to the last dying declaration of Paolo Sarpi (1552–1623) the Venetian theologian and philosopher and canon law expert who uttered these words towards the Venetian Republic, whose independence he devoutly espoused. The introduction of the phrase to Britain was probably through Sir Joshua Reynolds who went to Italy for his higher training in Renaissance art and painting with the contemporary Italian masters.

The Face (UK TV series)

The Face was a British reality television series based on the American series of the same name. It aired on Sky Living from September to November 2013. The series saw three supermodels - Caroline Winberg, Erin O'Connor and Naomi Campbell - compete with each other to find the newest face of Max Factor.

The premiere of The Face drew poor ratings of only 132,000 viewers, a market share of 0.6% of British households watching TV at the time, and below the audience Sky Living averaged in the same time slot - 239,000 viewers (1% share) - during the year before the show aired. In July 2014, it was confirmed that due to poor ratings, the show was axed would not return for a second series.

A Face to Die For

A Face To Die For (also known as The Face in the UK & Australia) is a 1996 television film, based on the book "The Face" by Marvin and Mark Werlin. The teleplay was also written by Marvin Werlin, Mark Werlin and Duane Poole, is a romantic thriller that starred Yasmine Bleeth, James Wilder and Robin Givens.

Plot

Due to a tragic childhood accident, Emily Gilmore (Yasmine Bleeth) is left scarred both physically and mentally. The large scar on her face is a constant reminder to Emily that her career and love life are suffering. Lonely yet talented, Emily longs for a successful career and romance but is trapped by insecurity and fear.

The handsome Alec Dalton (James Wilder) turns Emily's life around and makes her feel truly happy and secure for the first time in her life. Unfortunately, Alec talks Emily into stealing money from her employer. But the old man that Emily works for comes in during the heist and has a heart attack. Emily stays behind to help him while Alec runs off. He gets away with the money but Emily is sent to prison. She is so in love with Alec she does not say a word about Alec's involvement.

The Face (U.S. TV series)

The Face is an American reality television modeling competition series. The show is hosted by Nigel Barker, who was a previous judge on America's Next Top Model. The Face follows three supermodel coaches as they compete with each other to find 'the face' of a make-up brand. It premiered February 12, 2013, on Oxygen. The series was renewed in April 2013 for a ten-episode second season, which premiered on March 5, 2014. While Naomi Campbell reappears in two seasons, Anne Vyalitsyna and Lydia Hearst replaced Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova as supermodel coaches for season two.

Casting process

Aspiring contestants for the show had to pre-register themselves online, and were encouraged to attend open casting calls or send in a video and application. The deadline for all applications was August 3, 2012. The show required all contestants to be 18 years old and over at the time of auditioning in order to be eligible for the program. Contestants from any country around the world could apply, as long as they had all the required documentation in order to remain in the United States for the duration of the series.
