Clemson–South Carolina rivalry

The Clemson–South Carolina rivalry, also called the Carolina–Clemson rivalry, is an American college rivalry between the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and the Clemson University Tigers. Both institutions are public universities supported by the state of South Carolina, and their campuses are separated by only 132 miles. USC and Clemson have been bitter rivals since the 1880s, and a heated rivalry continues to this day for a variety of reasons, including the historic tensions regarding their respective charters and the passions surrounding their athletic programs.

Much like the Alabama-Auburn rivalry and the North Carolina-Duke rivalry, the Clemson–South Carolina rivalry is an in-state collegiate rivalry. This is one of a handful of rivalries where the teams are in different premier conferences: South Carolina is in the Southeastern Conference (SEC); Clemson is in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

In 2014, the annual football game between the two schools was officially dubbed The Palmetto Bowl.

The Chicken (dance)

The Chicken is a popular rhythm and blues dance started in America in the 1950s, in which the dancers flapped their arms and kicked back their feet in an imitation of a chicken. The dance featured lateral body movements, was used primarily as a change of pace step while doing the Twist. The chicken dance gained even more popularity when Rufus Thomas wrote "Do the Funky Chicken", a hit record in 1970.

Legacy

In the 1960s the Chicken gave rise to The Frug, showcased in Bob Fosse's choreography.

It is featured in the 1980s original Blues Brothers musical comedy film directed by John Landis and starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.
