Duke of Orléans

Duke of Orléans (French: Duc d'Orléans) was a title reserved for French royalty, first created during the 14th century. Known as princes of the blood (princes du sang), the title of Duke of Orléans was given, when available, to the oldest brother of the king. Thus, they formed a collateral line of the French royal family, with an eventual right to succeed to the throne should more senior princes of the blood die out.

During the period of the ancien régime the holder of the title often assumed a political role. The Orléans branch of the House of Valois came to the throne with Louis XII (15th century). Louis Philippe II, fifth Duke of Orléans, contributed to the destruction of the ancient regime. At the head of a retrospectively named 'Orleanist' faction centred on the Palais Royal, he contested the authority of his cousin Louis XVI in the adjacent Louvre. His son would eventually ascend the throne in 1830 following the July Revolution as Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. The descendants of the family are the Orléanist pretenders to the French throne, and the title has been used by several members of the House. The holder of the title held the style of Serene Highness.

Orleans (TV series)

Orleans is an American drama series that aired on CBS from January 7, 1997 through April 10, 1997. It ran for 8 episodes. The series was said to be inspired by the experiences of creator/producer Toni Graphia, who was the daughter of a Louisiana judge.

Synopsis

The show was centered on the character of Judge Luther Charbonnet, portrayed by Larry Hagman. He was a judge seated in New Orleans and had a family that consisted of some wildly different characters. One of the sons was an assistant district attorney, another son was a police officer, and a daughter who ran a casino. An overall backstory to the series was that Judge Luther had another daughter who was missing or had been dead for years, and he had a search going on for information on her. Several "taboo" subjects were touched on this series, including interracial relationships (Judge Luther had a black girlfriend) and incest (the daughter had a relationship with her cousin).

The show was promoted heavily before it had aired, and originally had the old timeslot that Dallas did during its run. However, the ratings were not great, and it was quickly moved to Friday nights.

Orleans-1 Vermont Representative District, 2002–12

The Orleans-1 Representative District is a two-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census.

The Orleans-1 District includes all of the Orleans County towns of Brownington, Charleston, Derby, Holland, and Morgan.

As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The two member Orleans-1 District had a population of 7,641 in that same census, 5.88% below the state average.

District Representatives

  • Robert Lewis, Republican, Lewis was appointed by Governor Jim Douglas to serve out the remainder of Loren Shaw's term and was then elected in November 2008.
  • Burn (Deep Purple song)

"Burn" is a song by British rock band Deep Purple. It was released on the album of the same name in 1974, and was the first song by the Mark III lineup. The song remained the band's concert opener for the next two years, taking over from "Highway Star". It opened Deep Purple's set on the California Jam two months after its release, on 6 April 1974.

After the Deep Purple 1984 reunion, the song was no longer played, as Ian Gillan, whom David Coverdale had replaced, was vocalist once more, and would not sing songs from the Coverdale era. The band did perform "Burn" live in 1991, during the time in which Gillan was briefly replaced by Joe Lynn Turner. When Gillan once more returned to the band in 1992, he again refused to perform Coverdale-era songs.

After Deep Purple's 1976 split-up, Coverdale formed his own band, Whitesnake, which over the years has featured Deep Purple members such as Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Don Airey, and has performed Coverdale-era Deep Purple songs such as "Burn", "Lady Double Dealer", "Lady Luck", "Mistreated", "Might Just Take Your Life", "Soldier of Fortune" and "Stormbringer". Glenn Hughes also features the song regularly in his live solo performances, as well as with his project, the supergroup Black Country Communion.

    History

Formed in 1991, the original line-up comprised Jeff Ogden on vocals, Rab Devenney on lead guitar, Marc Stackhouse on bass guitar, Barney Stackhouse on keyboard, and Karl Bee on drums. After Bee's death following a motorcycling accident, Rob Morris, followed by Benjy Reid III two years later, took over as drummer. Their debut album, So Far So Bad made an impact, with Kerrang! magazine awarding it 5 stars. They toured the United States and Europe and, in 1995, released their second album, Spark to a Flame. The band's third album, Global Warning, was released in May 2007. They supported the Scorpions at the Rock and Blues Festival in the UK in July 2007.

  • Burn (Havok album)

Burn is the first full-length album recorded by the thrash metal band, Havok. It was released in 2009 on Candlelight Records.

    Background

Drum, bass and guitar recording started in mid-2008 in the basement of singer/guitarist David Sanchez's mother's house, in Lakewood, CO. It took roughly 6 months. Vocals were recorded later at Motaland Studios in Denver with engineer Bart McCrorey, who also mixed the album. The band did not work with a producer due to a limited budget of roughly $2,500.

Halsey Swain provided the artwork after an earlier version of the same concept by another artist was rejected.

The album consists of 5 tracks that had been previously released on various EPs or demos and 7 tracks that were original to the album. Bassist Justin Cantrell contributed "Morbid Symmetry" to the songwriting process, but left the band before recording began. This track was designated the "single" for the album, though no actual single was ever released. Jessie De Los Santos replaced him. Drummer Ryan Bloom left the band shortly before the album's release date and was not permanently replaced until 2010. His credit on the album reads, "drum tracks by Ryan Bloom," and he was the lyricist for "Ivory Tower."

    THE BURN

    by: Starship

Bad is better than the burn
    Some people never learn
Bad is better than the burn
I'll take the blame, it's my mistake
One heart goes free, one heart just aches
It's an easy kill within my range
I made the break, honey, you kept the pain
And yesterday means nothin' to me now, doesn't matter
I'll keep it hid, you'll live somehow
Bad is better than the burn
Truth is better than a lie
    Some people never learn
Bad is better than the burn
I fished love's kiss from the wishing well
Wound up in heaven, stayed around for hell
It's a common crime to live this lie
I see no point after love has died
I'll be the one who said good-bye, oh yeah
And I'll take the heat for the tears you cry
Bad is better than the burn
Truth is better than a lie
    Some people never learn
Bad is better than the burn, oh yeah
Bad is better than the burn
Or the hurt that's hidden in the heart
They say you pay with what you earn
Bad is better than the burn
Cold is the shoulder that turns away
Curses the man on Judgment Day
Damned by the brand done too soon
Crawled out of this house and howled at the moon
And yesterday means nothing to me now
I'll keep it hid, you'll live somehow
Bad is better than the burn
    Some people never learn
Bad is better than the burn
Bad is better than the burn
Truth is better than a lie
    Some people never learn
Bad is better than the burn
(Bad is better than the burn)
Bad is better than the burn
Truth is better than a lie
    Some people never learn
Bad is better than the burn
