The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (fictional)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a fictional electronic guide book in the multimedia scifi/comedy series of the same name by Douglas Adams. The Guide serves as "the standard repository for all knowledge and wisdom" for many members of the series' galaxy-spanning civilization. Entries from the guidebook are used as comic narration to bridge events and provide background information in every version of the story. The guide is published by "Megadodo Publications", a publishing company on Ursa Minor Beta.

In the original radio scripts, the Guide's voice was called the "Narrator" and in the 2004–2005 series, "The Voice." For all of the radio series and the 1981 TV series, the role was credited as "The Book", though this was changed to "Narrator/The Guide" for the 2005 movie.

In the first two phases of the radio series, the LP album adaptations of the first radio series and in the television series, the Guide was voiced by British actor Peter Jones. During the 2004–2005 radio series, The Guide was voiced by William Franklyn. In the film version, it was voiced by Stephen Fry.

Zoroaster

Zoroaster (/ˌzɒroʊˈæstər/ or /ˈzɒroʊˌæstər/, from Greek Ζωροάστρης Zōroastrēs), also known as Zarathustra (/ˌzɑːrəˈθuːstrə/; Avestan: 𐬰𐬀𐬭𐬀𐬚𐬎𐬱𐬙𐬭𐬀 (Zaraθuštra); Persian: زرتشت‎‎ Zartosht, زردشت Zardosht), or as Zarathushtra Spitama, was the founder of Zoroastrianism. Though he was a native speaker of Old Avestan and lived in the eastern part of the Iranian Plateau, his birthplace is uncertain. Zoroastrianism was the official religion of Persia and its distant subdivisions from 600 BCE to 650 CE. Zoroaster is often dated to the 10th century BC, though the religion named for him is not attested to historically until the 5th century BC.

He is credited with the authorship of the Yasna Haptanghaiti as well as the Gathas, hymns which are at the liturgical core of Zoroastrian thinking. Most of his life is known through the Zoroastrian texts.

Etymology

Zoroaster's name in his native language, Avestan, was probably Zaraϑuštra. His English name, "Zoroaster", derives from a later (5th century BCE) Greek transcription, Zōroastrēs (Ζωροάστρης), as used in Xanthus's Lydiaca (Fragment 32) and in Plato's First Alcibiades (122a1). This form appears subsequently in the Latin Zōroastrēs and, in later Greek orthographies, as Zōroastris. The Greek form of the name appears to be based on a phonetic transliteration or semantic substitution of Avestan zaraϑ- with the Greek zōros (literally "undiluted") and the Avestan -uštra with astron ("star").

Zoroaster (band)

Zoroaster is a sludge metal band from Atlanta, Georgia formed in 2003. The original line-up was Brent Anderson on bass and vocals with Will Fiore (guitar, vocals) and Todd Fiore (drums), all of whom had previously been members of Terminal Doom Explosion. So far they have released four studio albums, Zoroaster in 2005, Dog Magic in 2007, Voice of Saturn in 2009, and Matador in 2010. They are currently signed to E1 Music.

Zoroaster (album)

Zoroaster is the debut album by stoner metal band Acid King. It was released in August 1995 on CD and vinyl through Sympathy for the Record Industry. In 2006 it was combined with the band's debut EP, Acid King, and released as the compilation album The Early Years.

Zoroaster was the last Acid King album to feature their original bassist, Peter Lucas.
