Cold River (Maine – New Hampshire)

The Cold River is a 16.7-mile-long (26.9 km)river in western Maine in the United States. It very briefly enters New Hampshire as well. It is part of the Saco River drainage basin.

The Cold River begins at the height of land in Evans Notch, a pass through the eastern White Mountains. Maine Highway 113, a narrow two-lane road, passes through the notch, following the Cold River on the south side and Evans Brook, a tributary of the Androscoggin River, on the north. The Cold River, flowing south, picks up the Mad River, a short stream with waterfalls that flows off the southern faces of East Royce and West Royce mountains, then reaches the southern base of Evans Notch at the junction of Basin Brook, coming out of a large glacial cirque to the west, where the Cold River national forest campground is located.

South of Basin Brook, the Cold River briefly enters New Hampshire near the village of North Chatham, then veers back into Maine, flowing south-southeast in the town of Stow through an ever-widening valley. The Little Cold River enters from the west near the village of Stow. The Cold River ends at Charles Pond in the northern corner of Fryeburg. Water flows from Charles Pond via the short Charles River, entering the Old Course of the Saco River and eventually the Saco itself south of Kezar Pond.

    The Bandits

The Bandits were an English blues rock band from Liverpool. They are most notable for the singles "Take it and Run" and "2 Step Rock", which both reached the Top 40 on the UK Singles Chart.

    History

The band's first appeared on the Honey Records' 2001 "Beatin Planks" compilation album, which featured early versions of two songs: "Take It An Run" and "Free Me Rain". The line up at the time consisted of John, Gary, Scott and Tony, with Neil Crosbie on drums. Scott Dulson and Tony Dunne had previously been in Tramp Attack with future Zutons frontman Dave McCabe. The band then brought in Swee on drums, and throughout 2002 auditioned for a lead guitarist and recruited Ritchie, who lived in Wallasey at the time.

The Bandits signed a record deal with Warners and released a succession of singles throughout 2002 and 2003, before releasing their only album 'And They Walked Away'.

The Bandits also ran their own club night in Liverpool, The Bandwagon, which became relatively popular and helped launched the careers of The Coral, The Zutons, The Hokum Clones, The Stands, Tramp Attack and the band themselves. The club night was known for its wild west style posters and stickers, designed by Scott. Bandwagon nights, usually held at The Zanzibar Club on Seel Street often sold out, and featured some of the days' most prominent bands, including The Libertines and others.

    The Bandits (ballet)

The Bandits (French: Les Brigands) is a grand ballet in two acts and five scenes with prologue, choreographed by Marius Petipa to music by Léon Minkus. The libretto by Marius Petipa is based on Miguel Cervantes' novella La Gitanilla.

The work was first presented by the Imperial Ballet on January 26/February 7 (Julian/Gregorian calendar dates), 1875 at the Imperial Bolshoi Kammeny Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.

    Principal dancers: Ekaterina Vazem.

    Cold River

    by: A-ha

I took a ride in an automobile
Pushed my hands out against the wheel
Asked a girl if she needed a ride
She said, "Sure, babe, but I wanna drive"
    Hey now, wait awhile
We're going down with a smile
Cold river - she took me down
Cold river - she took my pride
    River runs so deep
    It runs so deep
    It runs so deep
Had to stop on account of the storm
Seemed like years since I'd been warm
We drove all night till the tires blew
Got in the back and did what you do
    Hey now, wait awhile
We're going down with a smile
Cold river -- she took me down
Cold river -- she took my pride
    On a sunny day
    On a sunny day
    (She took my pride)
    All the money you made
