The Authority

The Authority is a superhero comic book series published by DC Comics under the Wildstorm imprint. It was created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, and follows the adventures of the Authority, a superhero team mainly composed of Ellis-created characters from Stormwatch.

Rage (video game)

Rage is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software. It uses the company's id Tech 5 game engine. Released in October 2011, the game was first shown as a tech demo on June 11, 2007 at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), and was officially announced on August 2, 2007 at QuakeCon. On the same day, a trailer for the game was released by GameTrailers.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic near future, following the impact of the asteroid 99942 Apophis on Earth. The game has been described as similar to the movie Mad Max 2 and to video games such as Fallout and Borderlands. Influences on the driving and racing gameplay include games such as MotorStorm and Burnout. Players can upgrade their cars with racing certificates won from races. Upon its release, the game received fair praise from critics and reviewers.

Gameplay

The game primarily consists of first-person shooter and driving segments, with the player using their vehicle to explore the world and travel between missions.

Lyra Belacqua/Silvertongue

Lyra Belacqua who adopts the surname Silvertongue given to her by Iorek Byrnison, is a young girl who inhabits a universe parallel to our own. She is the daughter of Lord Asriel and Marisa Coulter. Brought up in the cloistered world of Jordan College, Oxford, she finds herself embroiled in a cosmic war between angels and a pseudo-deity called The Authority when she prevents Lord Asriel's death and allows him to further his studies on Dust. She is able to read the Alethiometer (an instrument of divination), and is known to the witches as "Eve, the mother of all", who will eventually "bring about the end of destiny". In the end, Lyra is forced to separate from Will Parry (her beloved and bearer of the Subtle Knife), returning to her own world in order to, in her father's footsteps, build the 'Republic of Heaven'. Lyra's dæmon, Pantalaimon, changes shape throughout the majority of the trilogy, but eventually settles as a pine marten.

Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World is an American rock band from Mesa, Arizona, that formed in 1993. The band is composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Jim Adkins, guitarist and backing vocalist Tom Linton, bassist Rick Burch and drummer Zach Lind. As of June 2013, Jimmy Eat World have released eight studio albums, the last seven featuring the current lineup.

The four piece's commercial breakthrough came with the successful release of several singles from the album Bleed American (2001). Four singles from the album charted within the top twenty positions of the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, with "The Middle" reaching the number one position. Jimmy Eat World's follow-up album Futures (2004) featured another Modern Rock Tracks number one song, "Pain". The RIAA certified Bleed American platinum and Futures gold, rewarding the two albums for selling over one and a half million records between them. The band's sixth album Chase This Light (2007) became the band's highest charting album, peaking at number five on the Billboard 200.

Jimmy Eat World (1994 album)

Jimmy Eat World is the debut studio album by American rock band Jimmy Eat World, released in 1994 on Wooden Blue Records. The album displays their early sound with guitarist and eventual backing vocalist Tom Linton singing lead on most of the songs on this album. The one song on this album that is sung by current primary vocalist Jim Adkins is the track, "Usery". The album also marks the only appearance of former bass guitarist Mitch Porter.

Jimmy Eat World is currently out of print. The album cover is an old picture of Linton's younger brothers Jim and Ed, from whom the band's name originated.

Reception

In 2012, The A.V. Club's Jason Heller noted, "It's long been out of print, and there’s a good reason for it. It’s not terrible, but it doesn't represent what the band would become."
