Here I Stand (Usher album)

Here I Stand is the fifth studio album by American R&B recording artist Usher, released on May 13, 2008 by LaFace Records. Inspired by love for his new wife—Tameka Foster—and son, Usher recorded many ballads for the album. Prior to the album's recording, Usher split with his mother, Jonnetta Patton, as manager and hired Benny Medina. Usher's estranged father died months before the release of Here I Stand; this also influenced themes of the album. It was originally to be titled "Measure of a Man", but Usher named it Here I Stand to mark "a new chapter in [his] life".

Usher promoted Here I Stand by performing on several television shows including Total Request Live, 106 & Park and Good Morning America. Among other concert appearances, he embarked on a One Night Stand: Ladies Only Tour, performing fifteen shows in November 2008. Six singles were released from Here I Stand: "Love in This Club", "Love in This Club Part II", "Moving Mountains", "What's Your Name", "Here I Stand" and "Trading Places". "Love in This Club", which features rapper Young Jeezy, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and New Zealand Singles Chart.

"Thanks!" is the debut single of Hello! Project duo GAM. It is also the ending theme for the movie Sukeban Deka: Codename = Asamiya Saki, starring Aya Matsuura. The b-side, Shinkirō Romance (蜃気楼ロマンス), was also used as a filler track in the same movie.

The single was released on the Hachama label September 13, 2006 with a catalog entry of HKCN-50037. It debuted on the Oricon Daily Ranking singles chart at number 2, and finished with the weekly rank of number 5.

The Single V DVD containing the music video was released on September 20, 2006 with a catalog number of HKBN-50073.

Too Much Harmony (1933) is a black and white American Pre-Code musical film directed by A. Edward Sutherland and released by Paramount Pictures.

Plot

A backstage musical about a Broadway star, Eddie Bronson, who is stranded in Ohio where he discovers a small-time variety act, Dixon and Day and their assistant Ruth. Bronson puts them in a Broadway show and after many problems and romantic confusion, the show is a huge success.

Reception

The New York Times was guarded in its reaction. "The film bears the title of Too Much Harmony and those who are partial to crooning will find plenty of it in this production...Even persons who delight in Mr. Crosby’s peculiar ballads may be somewhat disappointed in his attempts to register admiration and affection, for, although he is one of the most popular singers in his line, his acting is often apt to make one uneasy."Variety's review was mixed: "Pretty weak on the story end, but there’s enough incidental matter to carry this one through. It’s a musical with accent on the music and the song and cast should bring it pleasant returns all over… Between Bing Crosby and Jack Oakie, the literary deficiencies are modified. Crosby for the singing and Oakie for the comedy; a strong combo. . . At least one of the several songs should make the best-seller grade in the competent hands of Crosby. His singing ability he always had, but Crosby now has also found himself in the trouping department. It makes him a cinch." The Los Angeles Evening Herald Express liked Crosby's singing, saying "In this, as in other films, the Crosby voice records as if microphones were invented for it. Bing has definite personality besides, and he grows steadily more at ease in his acting."
