Terminal Cheesecake

Terminal Cheesecake are an English alternative rock band, originally formed by Gary Boniface (formerly of The Purple Things and The Vibes), Russell Smith (formerly of A.R.Kane and MARRS), Mick Parkin and John Jobbagy (also from The Vibes and Purple Things) in 1988 in North and East London.

History

The name of the group was taken from a list of fictional sixties bands written by Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond.

Terminal Cheesecake were the first group to sign to Wiija Records - their debut record, 1988's "Bladdersack" EP was also the first release on the label. Two albums for Wiija followed in 1989.

The band recorded a John Peel Session in April 1990. This was followed by a third album, Angels In Pigtails which was released on Kevin Martin's Pathological label and described by rock critic Simon Reynolds as "an epic of ruination".

Russell Smith of the group was also a member of noise rock band Skullflower and one hit sampling wonders MARRS.

Terminal Cheesecake ceased activity in 1995. The group reformed in 2013 with Neil Francis from the band Gnod replacing Boniface as vocalist.

A terminal is the point at which a conductor from an electrical component, device or network comes to an end and provides a point of connection to external circuits. A terminal may simply be the end of a wire or it may be fitted with a connector or fastener. In network analysis, terminal means a point at which connections can be made to a network in theory and does not necessarily refer to any real physical object. In this context, especially in older documents, it is sometimes called a pole.

The connection may be temporary, as seen in portable equipment, may require a tool for assembly and removal, or may be a permanent electrical joint between two wires or devices.

All electric cells have two terminals. The first is the positive terminal and the second is the negative terminal. The positive terminal looks like a metal cap and the negative terminal looks like a metal disc. The current flows from the positive terminal, and out through the negative terminal, replicative of current flow (positive (+) to negative (-) flow).

History

Formation and How the Lonely Keep

Formed in 1998 under the name Letter Twelve, the group signed to Tooth & Nail Records in 2004 and changed its name. The band's first, and only, release under this name was entitled How the Lonely Keep, and in 2005 they went on tour with labelmates Anberlin. The record hit number 39 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart in 2005. Matthew Tsai of Absolute Punk called the record "one of the great emo releases of the 00's". Melodic.net compared the group to Anberlin, Jimmy Eat World, and Third Eye Blind.

Shortly after the release of the album, all of the band's members except for lead singer Travis Bryant departed the group during their tour with The Spill Canvas and Rufio; Bryant toured with Terminal as a solo act for the remainder of the tour. Bryant found replacements for the members later in 2005 and continued to tour behind the album, touring with Saosin, He Is Legend, The Juliana Theory, Cartel, The Working Title, Codeseven, The Receiving End of Sirens, and Yesterdays Rising. Terminal split in January 2006.

Cheesecake

Cheesecake is a sweet dessert consisting of one or more layers. The main, and thickest layer, consists of a mixture of soft, fresh cheese (typically cream cheese or ricotta), eggs, and sugar; if there is a bottom layer it often consists of a crust or base made from crushed cookies (or digestive biscuits), graham crackers, pastry, or sponge cake. It may be baked or unbaked (usually refrigerated). Cheesecake is usually sweetened with sugar and may be flavored or topped with fruit, whipped cream, nuts, cookies, fruit sauce, and/or chocolate syrup. Cheesecake can be prepared in many flavors, such as strawberry, pumpkin, key lime, chocolate, Oreo, chestnut, or toffee.

History

An ancient form of cheesecake may have been a popular dish in ancient Greece even prior to Romans' adoption of it with the conquest of Greece. The earliest attested mention of a cheesecake is by the Greek physician Aegimus, who wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes (πλακουντοποιικόν σύγγραμμα—plakountopoiikon suggramma). The earliest extant cheesecake recipes are found in Cato the Elder's De Agri Cultura, which includes recipes for two cakes for religious uses: libum and placenta. Of the two, placenta is most like most modern cheesecakes, having a crust that is separately prepared and baked.

"Cheesecake" is a song by Belarusian singer Teo. It was chosen to represent Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Denmark. The song is about a man who ends a relationship with a girl because he knows she wants him to be something he isn't.
