Adolescence

Adolescence (from Latin adolescere, meaning "to grow up") is a transitional stage of physical and psychological human development that generally occurs during the period from puberty to legal adulthood (age of majority). The period of adolescence is most closely associated with the teenage years, though its physical, psychological and cultural expressions may begin earlier and end later. For example, although puberty has been historically associated with the onset of adolescent development, it now typically begins prior to the teenage years and there has been a normative shift of it occurring in preadolescence, particularly in females (see precocious puberty). Physical growth, as distinct from puberty (particularly in males), and cognitive development generally seen in adolescence, can also extend into the early twenties. Thus chronological age provides only a rough marker of adolescence, and scholars have found it difficult to agree upon a precise definition of adolescence.

The Teenagers

The Teenagers are an American integrated doo wop group, most noted for being one of rock music's earliest successes, presented to international audiences by DJ Alan Freed. The group, which made its most popular recordings with young Frankie Lymon as lead singer, is also noted for being rock's first all-teenaged act.

History

The Teenagers had their origins in the Earth Angels, a group founded at Edward W. Stitt Junior High School in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan by second tenor Jimmy Merchant and bass Sherman Garnes. Eventually, Garnes and Merchant had added lead singer Herman Santiago and baritone Joe Negroni to their lineup and evolved into The Coupe De Villes. In 1954, 12-year-old Frankie Lymon joined the Coupe De Villes, who changed their name to first the Ermines and later The Premiers.

The same year Lymon joined the group, he helped Santiago and Merchant rewrite a song they had composed to create "Why Do Fools Fall In Love". The song got the Teenagers an audition with George Goldner's Gee Records, but Santiago was too sick to sing lead on the day of the audition. Lymon sang the lead on "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" instead, and the group was signed to Gee as The Teenagers, with Lymon as lead singer.

Teenagers (web series)

Teenagers (often stylized as teenagers) is a Canadian web series written and directed by Mathew Murray and executive produced by T.J. Scott.

The series premiered on a dedicated YouTube channel on January 19, 2014. It features an ensemble cast that includes actress Chloe Rose as the main female protagonist.Emmanuel Kabongo stars as the central male protagonist and co-produced the first season alongside Murray. The series has been called "gritty" and "provocative," and focuses on issues such as teen angst, racism, violence and sexuality.

As of December 2015, teenagers has been viewed over 5 million times online, amassing over 10,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Background

teenagers initially attracted media attention because its cast included several Degrassi stars, most notably Chloe Rose, who went on to be nominated for 'Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series' by the International Academy of Web Television for her role in the first season.
